They probably would have finished higher if he was playing for them instead of managing them.

I think that's very cruel on him, but seeing West Ham continue their revolving door policy does make me chuckle.

He should never have had the job in the first place. The Premiership is a very attractive place for top managers and coaches so a rookie with little coaching experience is ridiculous. Like Pearce, Roy Keane and many thers it was never going to be successful.

An experienced guy who knows the Premiership is what West Ham should be looking at. Mark Hughes and Avram Grant should be top of their list in my opinion.

He's a nice guy, but I don't think Zola was a very good manager. I think that West Ham squad was pretty decent, but he managed to make them pretty shit.

Maybe he'll mature into a better manager but I don't think he did a very good job at west ham.

I reckon the Sky poll has a good shout in Slaven Bilic.

Yeah, he fits the profile better than Hughes. As the BBC said, West Ham prefer younger managers.

Its just whether they can tempt him to go there. Bilic has said he'd like to return to the Premier League at some point.

I agree with most of that in principle but would argue your view on the squad being decent.

Whilst i don't think he got the best out of some of the more talented players in the team (which i would say confirms your view on him being a poor manager) once you lose a couple of those from your starting 11. There was very little to come in and do a job. This has been his problem since day 1 IMO.

Even those better players - Cole, Parker, Upson and Green create a bit of debate as to their quality.

I hope they go for ex West Ham hero Julian Dicks.
He'd keep the fans happy and after his wonderful season at Grays he's just the man to take West Ham in the direction they deserve to go.
Seriously who'd want to manage them with those pornographers running around shouting their mouths off?

Short list of managers has been confirmed as Grant, Allardyce, Dave Jones and Ian Holloway.

Sky Sports News understands that West Ham United want permission to interview Sam Allardyce, Avram Grant, Dave Jones and Ian Holloway over the managerial vacancy at Upton Park.

The Hammers sacked Gianfranco Zola last week after the club survived a brush with relegation from the Premier League and the search for the Italian's replacement has now started in earnest.

Portsmouth boss Grant has been the hot favourite to take charge at Upton Park after gaining plenty of admirers during a troubled season at Fratton Park.

Though a nine-point deduction for going into administration hindered Pompey's prospects of avoiding the drop, Grant still guided the club to a second FA Cup final in the space of three seasons.

Saturday's 1-0 Wembley defeat by Chelseawas widely expected to be Grant's last game in charge as he weighs up his future options.

Competition

However, it appears the Israeli has competition for the West Ham position, with Blackburn Rovers manager Allardyce also on the short-list drawn up by co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan.
Allardyce has spent 18 months at the Ewood Park helm and, after keeping Rovers up in his first season, guided the club to a top-10 finish in the Premier League this term.

Championship play-off rivals Dave Jones and Ian Holloway are also in the frame for the job after their excellent work at Cardiff City and Blackpool respectively.

The two clubs meet in the Championship play-off final at Wembley this weekend and the game could be something of an audition for the West Ham post.

Sky Sports News' chief news reporter Bryan Swanson understands there may be a delay in any interviews with Jones and Holloway because of the play-off final.
