Regarding JJetset, even though he had seemed to talk a lot of sense, I wasn't too sure about him until he called the Nelson deal (and to an extent Saha as well) on transfer deadline day. After that I was sold. He was on that before anyone else and when he said it I was convinced that he'd outed himself as a WUM, but lo and behold he turned out to be absolutely right. JJ further proved his competence in being the first to reveal our discussions with Hazard imo. No one else had a sniff of that and I think the comments that later came from Hazard himself more or less confirmed the veracity of JJ's claims.

Other than Peanut (who doesn't speak up too often) JJ is the only ITK whose word I take seriously. I'm very confident that he is for real. I used to say similar of POTL, though he's extremely hit and miss these days.

Anyway...

OK, for what it's worth, here's my take on the latest ITK from Jacob whilst trying to put it together with what we do know or can reasonably surmise.

Jacob has said that "Joe and Danny have BIG plans this summer". Now we know that we need a new manager, 2 strikers, possibly a GK to replace Gomes (who as far as I remember is out of contract) and we are about to complete / have completed (but not announced) Vertonghen.

If the new manager is under contract it will mean compensation to his club. Any new manager would want to bring in some players of his own choosing and the Board of THFC would want to make good progress with the new stadium coming over the metaphorical horizon. IMHO (NOT ITK) the Board would want to make a bold statement by appointing a well known, top notch manager - especially as Harry is / was the media's darling. I read that as being they would really not want to appoint someone who does not have at least a respectable track record i.e. not too much of a risk and so it would rule out a lot of managers.

That all adds up to a committment of mega bucks, quite possibly an amount that would normally have been beyond our budget and hence to involvement of nice Uncle Joe! The 2 GOOD new strikers on their own could cost as much as £40m - £50M, who knows?

So taking all things considered, IF the big plans come off, there could well be a lot to be excited about. The first piece in the jigsaw should be the manager and as soon as that is tied up (not necessarily announced) then the player purchases could commence as per the managers shopping list.

Thoughts?

I believe you are 101% correct. Nail on head

Do people in their 60s use messageboards? I thought SS57 was the only old boy around these parts.
One of the Aston Villa directors - the excellently named General Krulak who is a genuine 4-star general in the US Marine Corps - posts on VillaTalk a lot.

I think I read somewhere that we have option of another year, which means we'll likely hold out for some fee no matter how small. But I'm not an agent/itk/board member with-enough-time-on-his-hands-to-be-posting-on-here. Just a boring old s/t holder.... and a silver one at that. I'm lame. :D

Another point to back up JJetset with is that himself POTL said he was a very high level source.

I deliberately didn't speculate about who the new manager would be, but if pressed I would say choose one from Pep G, Le Blanc, Deschamps or Moyes. They may see AVB as a bit of a risk after his experience at Chelski or put that down to the influence of the Chelski players union and so may add him to the list.

Jj is the law round these parts, what he says goes as far as I'm concerned

As for the Jacob itk, makes me wonder if pg is more realistic than I would dare to believe. But as others have alluded to we hear similar words every summer...

I think you're being very optimistic. Personally Jacob is someone whose info I apply PLENTY of salt to, but even taking what he says at face value I can't think of a summer under ENIC when we have made a net spend of £40-£50m so I see nothing to suggest we will start doing it now. Don't get me wrong, I think we have definitely moved in the right direction as a club under ENIC, but I think it's a reach to expect a Man City summer (or even a Liverpool-in-2011 summer) of spending under their stewardship.

Yes you are right, but our net spend over the last few windows has been very little. We have been trying to get rid of some of the deadwood, to use someone else's phrase. That in itself would reduce our wage bill and, in doing so, free up some money for new players.

Here's hoping! (y)

What will take us to the next level is Lewis breaking open his piggy bank so we can compete with our rivals on salaries. I'm dubious that the manager will make a huge amount of difference.

In light of what we are now being told, I don't understand why JL hasn't thrown a bit more cash around.

Fair enough. Wasn't bashing. Just wondering as he is so highly regarded by everyone.

But then I remember when others were sucked off left right and centre and they turned out to be tits.

Well Jim, what else are tits for?!

JJ seems to have petty good knowledge and iirc has called a few things that others haven't.
His info seems to get rated highly on some of the other Spurs boards and he just "feels" a bit more legit.
Him and Peanut are currently top of the pile for me but maybe that's because they get their info from further up the ladder, therefore it's less likely to change.

There's also me but am I Sir Keith Mills?

To be fair, General Krulak was posting when Lerner first came in and they were challenging with us for the top 4.
