Good player, doubt he would be available or we would be interested (also he needs to b playing to progress and is nowhere near as good as Ade)

Like always the time was to buy him before he came to the Prem.

If we buy him now his price will be very high and he'll have a lot of expectation as a result.

Not really.

Papiss Cisse was touted as a world beater by some last season but look at him this year - hardly setting the world alight now!

Benteke has been decent this year, no more, no less but the main question is what he can do for us and whether he would prove value for money and the jury is still most definitely out on whether he's a great player in the making or another Hugo Rodallega.

No idea what Cisse has to do with my point.

Benteke was bought for £7m and is doing well. If we buy him then Villa will expect to make a nice profit and the player would expect a wage rise.

We need to scout these players again like we used to. In Dempsey, Dembele and Sigurdsson we spent around £30m. Fortunately Dembele had a release clause.

I'd like to see us spending that sort of money on genuine top talent. Outside of that I'd rather see us spending money on up-and-coming talent than high prices on those who have a brief period in the Prem.

My point re Cisse is that the exact same remarks were made in that we should have signed him when we had the chance as his value has now gone through the roof whereas the reality was is that he was bang in form and now if we were linked to him for the sums of money that were bandied around at the time then it would seem a little foolish.

I agree that our scouting does leave a little to be desired but then taking Dembele as an example, I'd expect us to fetch a good deal more than we paid and therefore will be deemed a shrewd bit of business from a financial standpoint.

Michu was a cracking bit of business for the money involved but I need a lot more convincing that Benteke will go from strength to strength and at £7million, I still don't classify him as a bargain.

I've never said we should buy Benteke. But if we did then I'd prefer it was before he became a big name for a reasonable fee and less expectation than big money once he's had a period in the Prem playing well.

Dembele was an exception because like I said he had a release fee. The others are not good value and are already being hounded by our fans for not living up to their price.

Christian Benteke has enjoyed a good start to his Aston Villa career and may be rewarded for his fine form.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all looking to have a swoop at the Belgian international.
Two clubs
Villa fans should be assured by the fact that Benteke has played for two clubs this season so he will stay to the end of the campaign at least, unless special dispensation is granted.
However, it could be a hard task at the end of the season to keep Benteke whether they stay up or get relegated to the Championship.
The bright side for the relegation-threatened Villa is that Benteke has been in fine form and has scored 11 goals so far this season.
The price of the striker may have doubled from the £7.5million that was paid to Genk in August 2012, according to the newspaper.
Favourites
Tottenham are looking the most likely to make a move for the Belgian international, the newspaper claims.
Andre-Villas Boas has been looking to strengthen his strike force as he only has Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor as options for the head of the attack.
Spurs may want to bolster their strike force as the Mirror says AVB may see Adebayor as surplus to requirements.
The Mirror suggested that they had already been looking at Leandro Damiao, and they are thinking about making a move in this window for a striker.
