Makes it sound like Levy banging Fryers was a deal breaker for him coming to us.

Not sure you've thought this one out

Utd and Fergie can't really speculate on dodgy transfers as they paid £7m for Bebe. That has dodgy written all over it. It was astute business as usual from Levy.

Have Spurs actually broken any rules with this deal though??

Not sure that it was understand as everybody knew what was going to happen.
For the record does anyone think Manchester United would have paid Accrington Stanley or Leyton Orient £6m if they'd taken him from them. Would SAF have advised the tribunal that was a fair compensation? Of course not and yet those are are the kind of clubs this rule was brought in to protect.
Could have been fair and amicable if they had been reasonable from the start.

Whilst I think the whole thing is hilarious, and I'm pleased to see the kid join if he's any good, I'm puzzled over the attitude to Rose.

He's had an undeserved bad rap on here IMO. I agree that he was very underwhelming on the wing, but his performances at LB were far more promising. I think that judgement's supported by the fact that he's been the Maccam's best player this season whilst playing in that position. The whole scenario reminds me of Kyle Naughton, who many on here had decided was pants, and then went and tore it up at Norwich on loan. He's now back here, and a lot on SC have reversed their opinion of him.

Benny's starting to get on a bit, and we have no idea how his form will be after such a long lay-off. We have an England U21 who's playing LB for a premiership club and earning rave reviews. Why do we want shot of him?

Should have at least another 3-4 years in him, he's only 28. I can see BAE being a decent coach if he decides to go that route

I hope Zeki comes good, real good

So do I, nothing better than to rub old red nose in it. The arrogance to demand £6m for a young LB that has hardly had any first team action is beyond ridiculous. They only have themselves to blame, and I for one love the fact Levy plays to win. Not many get one over Man U and to date I think we're not doing too bad in our dealings with them :)

Sure - I don't mean that he's on his last legs, just that a bit of succession planning wouldn't hurt.

We should see the best out of LOL from here on out. Prime age for a defender coming up. As long as he has his pace, he's golden. Whether it's for us or not.

Hope SAF isn't getting stroppy about this purely on principle. Starting to think Fergie really saw something in him...and he's normally a good judge.

Oh he did. I doubt he saw him as the next Paolo Maldini or anything but he'd have prefered to keep him.

Hope he isn't a CAshley Cole in the making.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...direspected-by-manchester-united-8442904.html

I know players earn loads and it might not be a lot in the grand scheme of things but he must know he will be a millionaire by the end of his career no matter what.

Hopefully its just journo's playing word games with his comments.
Didn't read the article, but the word is that United offered him £2k a week. Now, that's a decent wage by anybodies standards (especially for someone so young!), but if United thought he was worth £6m then he was well within his rights to ask for considerably more imo.

As Fryers was out of contract in June he effectively called the shots as to where he was going to go, if it wasn't Spurs. Levy no doubt advised his agent that our little club in Belgium would be a good parking bay for a few months and off he trotted at a fraction of the price of what we would have paid by tribunal.

Without a shadow doubt.

You don't pay £20K a week for a Development player. Who else is on £20K a week in the Development Squad?

He has been bought as and will be the reserve left back next season when things have quietened down and in September we will be told he has amazingly made giants strides after Tim Sherwood's PR about him.

Do you honestly think we would not have done the same if Utd had come calling for [any valued young english player of ours] at 17?
Its not arrogance, just makes good business sense. Unluckily for him, we've got an even craftier chairman who knows how to play the game.

Of course DL would have done the same. What he wouldn't have done is have such an influence on the supposedly independent tribunal so as to make the process moot.

DL might be crafty but only out neccessity and not because he's a grade A organic **** like baconface and the other Yanited high ups who have infested the FA like dry rot.

Would have been the same as Bostock when Jordan stupidly declined our offer of a mil, went to tribunal and got peanuts.
Fergie asked for £6m but the tribunal would have said no more than £1m imo.

I'm all for screwing the dirtiest transfer operators in memory, but I have a horrible feeling that this could haunt us.

If there is a trail that links his move to Liege with us then I worry the FA could p.unish us for not acting within the spirit of the rules in some way.

I can see it now, finish 4th and qualify for the CL then get a points deduction leaving us 7th.
