I think the £15m figure for Shaw sounds right. I know Davies would be less. Whether it'd be cheap enough to sway us toward Davies as opposed to Shaw is probably the biggest question. At this point, I'm actually a bigger fan of Davies than Shaw. I think he could step right in and play at a level that we require.
Snarf, which one in your opinion is the better long term prospect, who is better technically [control of the ball], the better potential all round defender?
a few questions I know, but the answers will help give me a better picture.

Davies and Shaw are both excellent prospects, but I think the latter will be the better player personally and is three years younger. A quality all round game and he's so assured for a 17 year old, that's very unusual.
There are plenty of youngsters with real ability, when you combine that with mental strength you've got a potential world-class player. Could be too pricey for us as a result, especially if Chelsea want to add them to their collection of wasted careers.

buy and loan back for the season. saints may well be relegated next season so the money now without weakening the team would be a great deal for them.

Why would we buy and loan back a LB when we need a new one?

Are you being serious? Of course we do. BAE isn't rated by AVB and has done much to prove him wrong, Naughton is awful at left back and Danny Rose still has massive question marks over him.

If the question is 'can we get through next season with BAE (who has suffered from injuries this season), DR (who is Sunderlands player of the year from left back), and JV as backup?' then the answer is a most definite 'YES'. If we had Shaw in the bag for the following year then I think there would be absolutely no problem in that. I haven't even mentioned Naughton as I suspect he'll either be sold or switched to the right permanently. I personally think Danny Rose's position is as strong as Kyle Walkers was after his loan finished up at Villa.

We've no proof that BAE and AVB do not see eye to eye so don't let fans opinions or the media fool you. We simply don't know.

We have lots of proof, watching him choose Naughton over him for crucial games should be enough of a give away. Couple that with the ITK from people who are well in the know, I think it is fairly obvious. Even Wenger could see it ffs.

Also did you watched much of Danny Rose last season, as he did not do as well as Walker did for Villa

I think Rose's position is hurt because we've seen him play LB for Spurs, and aside from a beautiful goal against the Scum, it's not been that great. With Walker we just knew the name. So I do think some of that has cost Rose esteem in the eyes of many of the fans. Had he never played for us and we were judging him purely on his Sunderland performances, I think he would be much more popular an option. And he's not been helped out by his attitude.

Still, doing it for Sunderland and doing it for a CL level team are two different levels. And I would feel more confident if we had another option there.

Ben Davies is a very good prospect, but I think neither him or Shaw are ready to be starting for us.

From the LBs out there that we could sign, I think the Frankfurt one (who's name is impossible to spell) would be the best choice.
We could then have Rose as backup or sell him for 8/9m and sign Ben Davies as backup (Shaw would command a larger fee)

You see thats where you're mixing up 'proof' with 'surface evidence'. AVB and BAE have spoken of his injuries throughout the season at different times through it - theres an argument to make that he has just been struggling to get 100% throughout. Parker didn't come back til he was 100% (which was good timing with Sandro out), Kaboul was left out when another manager would have played him early. AVB brings players back slower than previous manager from the evidence I see. Naughton filled the gap, as did Jan for the 1st half of the season. BAE keeps getting back into the team even when KN is fully fit so I happen to disagree with you (to a certain degree - not saying AVB wouldn't like an upgrade) and I don't think AVB see's the position as a top priority.

You probably read ITK and spout it off as fact all the time but I don't cos it rarely is. Don't believe everything you read kid...
