Ajax go on to sell their best prospects time and time again... We are in danger of becoming that club!

Our base product is different to that of Ajax.

Our league and location is one of the most desirable in football. That helps prevent that

I disagree. I haven't seen Livermore show that he is capable of achieving anything more than a role at a mid-table club. His passing isn't great, he is constantly moving out of position as he is attracted to the ball, he is prone to giving away silly fouls and doesn't really have the temperament to play at the very top level. So I think Stoke would be a great fit for him, and I wish him luck no matter where he goes.
Have you no mercy? If only for his comments made after the Barca game we should save him from Stoke.

Helps - but we still do not seem to be able to make the break from having one or two stellar talents to building the team they deserve. I hope this will be disproved this summer!

I'm waiting for someone to post "why the fuck are we looking at Danish unknown's when we should be looking at players like Cavani, Falcao etc."

For what it's worth, I know absolutely diddly squat about Cornelius but I'm glad we are casting our net wide and slightly left field rather than just established players and like Snarf says, if Dortmund are taking a close eye on his progress then that's good enough for me to know that he's worth a gamble.

I don't know if it's been said already, but if we signed Cornelius and Bernard then I think we'd probably have to be in the market for a player called Alfred at some point.

Is the thing about there being interest from Harry in taking Carrol on loan true mate?

We had a thread/discussion on Cornelius a few months back. I think he would be an interesting signing and worth considering taking a punt on. He's still a bit raw but good in the Penalty area, good header of a ball and absolute rocket of a shot.

I can't see us going for Cornelius if we pull off Leandro and Villa. Unless we're planning on shifting Ade and Defoe. Even then he'd be unlikely to get game time with Villa possibly playing centrally. It might be best to take him for a decent price then loan him back and let him get games under his belt.

Agree.
I think the young striker we'll sign is the croatian. He wouldn't demand so much first team matches as someone like Cornelius would

Okay, I'm generalising a bit but I think agents promote their players to go to teams like Porto (for South American players) and Ajax (Scandanavian players) to put them in the shop window. Ajax and Porto (and others) understand this and as long as they put in a shift and move the team forward they don't really stand in the players way when the big boys do take notice. Thus agents put the next generation of youngsters on their books in Ajax's direction.

We're not in danger of becoming Ajax because we make teams sweat blood for our star players, we don't yet have the pull to keep the very best for the whole of their careers but we do make the big boys pay for our Berbatov's, Moders and one day (hoperfully not too soon) Bale. One danger is that agents won't necessarily promote us to their players because of the difficulty they'll have moving them on for a fee later. A problem that won't be as bad if they direct their players towards Ajax.

+ Ajax have CL and which is the biggest shop window we have.

Hey guys, first time poster, long time watching these pages in particular. Watching these youtube compilations of Damiao (I live in Australia so Brazilian league isn't exactly on... anywhere really) one thing I notice immediately is that he seems to be a proponent of right place right time. And essentially I think that is what we are missing. I'm sure most would agree that for our ambition our current strike force probably wont get the job done due to their inconsistency. On a good day Defoe's shot is hard to stop and Manu can be unplayable (recent Chelski game as an eg) but these are few and far between. I see a lot of posts pointing out that LD doesn't set the world on fire. But does he need to? With Bales ability to create something out of nothing, what we really need is a consistent presence in the final third that will get onto the end of the final pass and somehow or another find the net, not matter how glorious or scrappy. And looking at it, he seems like that type of player. Granted, his stats in the Brazil league aren't prolific, but neither was Falcao, Henry or RVP at the same age (that's all I could be bothered to look up). You could also argue that he may not be getting the service our midfield could provide at Inter, and also that his skill set isn't suited for their league, much like Falcao at River Plate. Either way, I know I will be stoked if we sign him, because whether or not he is a success statistically, it shows we are willing to take a risk in the name of progress.
