I could have had a inside contact at PSG, sadly I haven't spoken to him in years though, else I may have been able to find out something :( As it is I refuse to believe AVB would leave us after one season.

Although I don't think AVB will leave us after one season, his track record at his previous clubs does lead to a few doubts

I think it's Paulinho's chairman who is doing that - but perhaps he's doing it just to keep the expectations of his own fans in check for as long as possible.

why would Bernards chairman need to drum up interest if he has a release clause?

Because maybe we're prepared to pay the release clause and then City, Chelsea etc etc come along and offer a bit more and take the player?

I really don't think Chelsea or City will be interested. I think he'd be a good fit for Arsenal, but he's not small enough to fit into their Munchkin Land midfield.

I was using them as an example! Any team with stupid amounts of money.

Just bumped into Adebayor
Just went through security with him at terminal 5.
he said he will be at spurs next season,
he said he thinks Bales staying.
I said he better score more goals next season and he said he always does his best.
Point of note to everyone. if you see a premiership footballer in front of you at airport security take a different queue, thought i was going to miss my flight waiting for him and his mates to take their jewellery off and get their louis vuiton through the scanner.
seemed like a nice bloke though.

he posted a pic of himself with ade as well

But that would make no difference.

The point was that if a release clause is, for example, 20m quid, the club HAVE to accept. If Chelsea offer 25m they are in no stronger position than whoever pays 20m. So they would have to be mental (yes, I admit, that doesn't rule them out) to pay any more. They could just put the money to more wages to entice the player - but that doesn't go to the club.

Interesting about him staying. I personally want Adebayor to stay. I want Defoe sold, however. Adebayor just offers way more to the squad over the course of 90 minutes.

If Adebayor can put together a quality 2013/14 season, he will much easier be sold the following summer. I'm just hoping he's not expected to be our main striker and that we will bring in someone that will get the lion's share of starts.

I'll be a happy camper if Ade stays. He's got some excellent stuff in his locker (by which I mean his ability, not a bb gun or nuffink)

I think the only logical thing may be that we are offering an amount, but not quite the release clause. Most likely their chairman is looking to drum up interest publicly to get us to ante up or have someone come in and trigger the clause.

Please guys, I'm teasy as fuck, I'm knackered, I'm old & miserable :( . WHY are we chatting about a Wigan player who's worth £10mil but apparently rated at £20mil, has his own thread in the transfer section and has had no recent ITK about him (as far as memory serves) and it's a bullshit paper story?

And WHY are we having conversations about references on fucking twitter about AVB leaving? I get it, JJ is one of the ITK guys (one of the best ones too), but where is the ITK about AVB going?

Yet when we DO get ITK about our interest in Paulinho and our upcoming appointment of Baldini, barely an eyelid is raised, barely a word is spoken, and conversation goes back to AVB and PSfuckingG, WHY??

Sorry I'm grumpy, my wife is still in bed, kids are doing my nut in, and the last thing I need right now is for this thread to be locked. If that happens, I WILL kill one of my kids, so I hope you'll be happy to have that on your conscience for the rest of your life, or for the 2 seconds that you actually give a shit

You really do need to be on a marriage support website and not SC me thinks........................

Oh and thanks kindly for policing our thoughts and ideas. No doubt your one of the brave liberals that appear to be popping up all over the place lately. You thoughts on the current petrol price would be most welcome.............:bag:

Good call. Eminently possible.

The only possible - but massively unfair, speculative - alternative is that the Chairman and player/agent are in cahoots regarding the signing-on fee and possible kickbacks. Can only hope that's not it.

Because for the amount we'll be paying for Paulinho he'll be a starter along side dembele and sandro, so Sig and holtby will get put on the bench and I don't think they'll stick around too long if that's the case. Both are 22,23 and so need game time. I'm fully aware you also need a strong bench but they will wanna play. Just my opinion though.

Competition for places, like Fat Tom and CO will really challenge the likes of Sigs, and Holtby?

We have always been weak regarding strength of depth in midfield. Paulinho would help cure this, add pace and guile (and no little talent) whilst at the same time challenge the remaining midfielders to raise their games if they want a starting spot. You just need to look at the benches of Chel$ea, Man Ure, and Man Citeh to see that success will make up for lost playing time for most players.

The really interesting thing that could develop with Paulinho is the amount of different looks we could offer in midfield...

For example, Stoke away on a rainy day?

------ Dembele ----- Paulinho -----
----------------- Holtby ---------------

Man City w/ their strength down the middle?

---------------- Sandro ---------------
----- Dembele ----- Paulinho -----

A team that will put 10 behind the ball?

------------ Dembele --------------
-- Carroll ------------- Paulinho --

I think a move for a Paulinho, or someone who can provide cover in multiple positions similar to him, would give AVB a huge opportunity to mold the midfield to the opponent and also to get some of the guys that will need rest, the time they deserve to stay fresh all season.
