I'm not sure that this has to do with money. Maybe the player (and perhaps his wife) simply wanted to remain in Spain. At his age his career is on the wane. A younger player might be more interested in an ambitious project. Perhaps the upheaval is too much for him and family. So he goes to Madrid, earns good money, lives where he speaks the language, and enjoys the sunshine. And plays a bit of football...

yep and being close to home in WC year knowing he can score goals in that league mitigates a huge risk for him

There is no issue with missing out on Villa. We were officially informed last night but it has been on the wall and we were already looking at different targets. Nothing to do with Levy we had agreed a fee and everything but Villa simply chose Athletico. If anybody cares to check my history elsewhere I said Villa had agreed with athletico as far as 5 weeks ago. It was well known just not to the media who lag typically 3-4 days behind transfers.

No need for anyone to watch dirty dancing and start crying. We move on. :)

You know when your all saying we didnt replace berbatov you do realise he was a world class 30 million pound forward don't you? And they don't exactly grown in trees. Especially if your not bank rolled by Arab or Russian money.

Largely as I predicted, that he would opt to stay in Spain given the choice. Surprised the fee is that low - "a fee of up to 5.1 million euros". Foremost in his mind will be staying in the Spain squad for the WC and making a case for starting in the central role.

Yeah I saw you posted that about Villa a while back.

Lets just hope we have some other targets.

On the subject of defoe he is not going anywhere...Daniel Levys fav player.

I'm sure another ITK said Lennon was Levy's favourite player. And if JD is then why did he saction his sale in the past? Also isnt it up to AVB and Franco
