Wasn't really that annoyed about us not getting Villa even though I really thought we might do as it seemed his age etc he may choose a new challenge but as it has happened early we can move onto other targets but I am annoyed that after putting three months into the deal it has fallen apart. But to now be suggesting Higuain its just the same old shit as usual with us. We don't have CL he will want CL so why go for big name media targets when we have no chance.

Wasn't there ITK to expect 2 in by 8th July? I'm guessing Grey Fox was implying Paulinho and Villa.

Isn't this what we got Baldini for? To unearth some hidden gem buried deep in the jungle?

Time to earn your keep Baldy, go get us a striker that can score 30 a season, costs under £10m and is between 20-25. Return with him or we shall release the Chirpy!

I think the best we can hope for is Soldado. If Valencia want over £20m for a 28 year old though it probably won't happen.

I don't get why people keep saying this. He is a big strong lad, he is quickish and gets himself into the scoring zone well enough, but his hold up play is really not very good. He gives the ball away quite a lot and in the two games against us he was quite poor.

I think as a pure No.9 you could make a case, as good as is possible based on one season. But I've watched him possibly a dozen times maybe 10 full games and haven't been impressed with his "hold up" play in deeper areas at all. He gives the ball away a lot (his completion rate for example is 64%, Adebayor even last year when not in form was 80%). He's strong but his technique is pretty ordinary.

I can understand people maybe wanting him based on his in box performance last year, but his play outside the box was very ordinary bordering on poor most of the time.

Actually I thought his hold up play was good over the course of the season. Many times he would control the ball and lay it off, or get control the ball with his chest when defenders were pressuring him and pass it off to someone else. He isn't great at heading the ball on, but there is far more to hold up play than that.

EDIT: his pass completion rate is also significantly affected by the shite he was playing with week in week out.

all itk's were wrong on villa, it looks like what happened in the villa deal is what jetset said he said we made an offer to barca to loan him they obviously said no and decided to take any cash that atletico offered

If a 31 year old David Villa turned us down for a CL team why would anyone in the right mind think that a 26 year old Higuain would want to come?!

We need a player who is top quality but playing in a poorer league and ready to step up. Players like Lloris and Vertonghen spring to mind.

What concerns me is that we seem to be either linked to mega stars, players that are "en vogue" and therefore overly expensive or are under 20. Where are the links to the 24-27 year olds that are ready to step up?

Now you mention it, he does look like Michael Douglas in romancing the stone

Well maybe because he has age on his side (he could leave after two years and still play in the CL for 6 years after), his game is more suited to the PL, he has already left his home Country, wants to try himself in a new league, so on and so forth....

I fully understand why Villa choosing Athletico it's just HIGHLY frustrating that we still have no forward and I can't see one coming in ... it just feels like we've been here a thousand times before

Well We did make an offer to loan villa in January. That very nearly happened then Barca decided they wanted to keep him but would let him go at the end of the season...

Us, Arsenal and Athletico all had bids accepted and Villa had the choice of all three clubs. In fairness to Villa he has a family member at Athletico and made it clear he wished to join them. It was the English media and Villas advisors (who wanted to drum up more interest) who dragged it out till 5 weeks later.

If anyone is interested our bid was 5 million pounds rising to 7 million dependent on various factors.

All in all I am not bothered......plenty more fish in the sea. Wipe our mouths and move on. :)
