Levy isn't stupid, any potential deal will involve so many add-ons to ensure we aren't stung by the one season curse.

Very much so, but we shelled out 16mill for Bent, there is potential that we could offer 16mill plus addons and I'm not that high on Benteke that I'd be excited if we do. Consider it a fear of the Bent in his name, we've not had much luck with the Bent's of the World - bent and bentley were two high-priced failures. 3rd time's the charm? Who knows.

...and had "put his money where his mouth was" and bet £100 on Villa signing...

:bag:

In terms of premier league teams, can only see us being interested... I reckon IF we are and a deal is struck will be just south of £20 million... On the Villa boards they are talking £35 million... Deluded.
we were saying £50m for Modders and £80m for Bale...

Seriously he was in shit hot form by the end of the season with 9 in his last 10... However he had a poor start to the season.

I still can't decide how to value him, I'm sure Levy feels the same. Whereas he represents a risk to us, he's Villa's crown jewel... There's bound to be a huge divergence in valuations.

Brian Doogan, head if Media has said the following:

'In response to reports Benteke has not travelled 2 Germany with the Club and has made a transfer request, both are accurate, for clarity’s sake, however, he had already been given extra time off until July 18 & was reminded there are 3yrs remaining on his contract, we consider him to be a Villa player & expect he'll be with us for the 2013-14 season. Having received transfer request, we've also informed him that should we receive offer within appropriate time frame during preseason that meets valuation we would act upon it. But he'll remain a Villa player should this not happen. Villa manager PL said “While we’re hugely disappointed Christian has put in a transfer request, its important people appreciate we're trying build something strong vibrant at Villa, something Club demands&stands for & we want CB part of it.”

Selling Townsend would be a mistake I feel I think he has something to offer the squad and if he doesn't loaning him for a season could double his value

True but Villa really want him so could keep them sweet plus if we chuck in a goalscorer in Defoe and a modest amount of cash we have minimised the financial risk on him

£25m is the number Sky 'understands' which is probably about right may be a touch high .... Just not sure i can see Levy going this high and entering a bidding war its just not how he rolls.

So just have to hope he has already worked his magic and got it nailed already

They should be happy with 16 million for Benteke paid 8 and one good season, doubling your money is about right!
We'd be looking at tripling the feee I think. £20m-£24m isn't exactly crazy. On the high side and it comes down to how stubborn Villa are. At least with DL you know what price he quotes for a player is the price he leaves for, if not more in fact.

If they fold, or shows signs of doing, DL will not pay what they want but wait instead, no matter how much that annoys us fans or might affect the pre-season.

I'm not expecting this deal to be done any time soon if the club interested is us.

Then we won't be doing a deal. The statement from Villa is that they want it done quickly in order to get a replacement. 'Appropriate time frame' being their words.

Fingers burnt before paying big money for players who had a decent spell in the league (Bent, Bentley) will Levy take a 3rd risk and more importantly is he the player AVB wants and who will suit the system? Not sure.

Which is interesting that they have mentioned that given Levy's reputation for stringing things out...

I'd be ok with Arsenal getting Hig as long as we get Benteke. I know some aren't keen but I love the beast and his strength and pace would be beautiful in our new 4-3-3. I'd love it but don't see us offering any more then £16m and with a high quality youngster and no need to sell their star man I can see Villa demanding £25m plus- In which case it won't happen. Refuse to get exciting yet but this would be immense:
Paulinho Sandro Dembele
Bale Benteke Nani/Jese/Bernard

Reality =:cry:

Good point... Will AVB want him. I can't help feeling he might just take him in the fear that a better striker Levy is prepared to pay for doesn't come along.

Yes, and no. Obviously Bent and Bentley were massive failures, but that was down to poor planning. IE Buyiing Bent when he didn't fit in with any of our other strikers as a duo, and buying Bentley when we had Lennon.

We've bought other players on the up from PL like Palacios and Jenas who were good servants for us.
