I know I may be being a bit pedantic here but isn't he a Bent replacement? Now that Benteke wants out surely they'd need another forward? They have Weimann, who I think has been very good for them and will start, but I thought Helenius was going to be a backup option.

With regards to Villa's asking price - a player's value is only what another club will pay for him. They will hope that the likes of City and Chelsea will be interested and offer the "asking price" but if it drags on 'til the end of the window and he's desperate to leave they're going to have a problem and may have to consider shifting him for as much as they can get, because his value will only drop if he is relegated to the bench this coming season. Likewise, Benteke has to be careful. It's a World Cup year and he will want to play so having a Darren Bent season isn't going to look good on him. Likewise, if Villa are anything like us they will put their foot down.

I posted this on the ITK discussion thread. Makes sense to post it on here.

If it is between us and liverpool then i really think we have an edge for sure.

We are in amazing and vibrant London, Verts and dembele belgium buddies, europa league, top 3/4 target for the upcoming season, amazing training complex, world class manager, Gareth Bale. Impressive isnt it?

If liverpool would bid for Benteke then its most likely the money they will get from Suarez imo, I think however the Suarez saga will drag on for a while which would not suit Aston Villa knowing they want to come to a conclusion on the Benteke deal asap (on there statement).

And there we are in a desert looking for water (Benteke).... We are really thirsty and would love a bit of water. ;)

As JJ said .. If we want him we need to act quick and i do think its in our hands.

that is probably what Levy is thinking but playing that game of brinkmanship will screw up our start to the season for the 3rd year running, #neverlearns

feel sorry for villa re bentekkers really, i know we are potetially benefitting but the shoe has been on our foot.

Not a nice fealing when a player wants out, and the club has relatively little power over the longer-run.

Just when things couldn't get worse for Villa fans.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "Tottenham have consistently been the best-backed side in our market on Benteke's next club, which we opened at the end of last season with interest seemingly inevitable this summer given his impressive debut campaign in the Premier League."

"Our punters already seem to be looking at who Villa will turn to as Benteke's replacement, with Bobby Zamora backed in from 10/1 to 2/1 to move to Villa Park."

Sensible Villa fan:

Ireland was one isolated incident. A player with a reputation of being a tool, with pink rimmed Range Rovers and a **** up haircut. There is nothing to learn from the Ireland-transfer, other than doing your due diligence when buying any player. Every manager make bad transfers, from Mourinho to Ferguson and Lambert. You said a few posts up that "if you are not good enough for Tottenham, you are not good enough for Aston Villa". That makes no sense at all, most of their players are too good for us and most of their reserves probably are good enough for our squad as well. Some of the players in their midfield who don't play much, would be absolute stars in our team.

Crazy Villa fan:

Nonsense.

Ignore the reputation and the "star dust" that playing for Spurs sprinkles over them. Villa are aiming for the league position higher than Spurs. If they don't want a player, we don't want him.

When I use the phrase "star dust" I actually mean "raw sewage."

:ROFLMAO:

Would be quite underwhelmed if we spunked 20m+ on this bloke. Huge risk and i dont think hes good enough nor do i think he suits our team.

Agreed Clint, it's a big jump going from Villa an absolute goal scoring legend to Benteke who's had one good season in England. I'd rather activate Jovetic release clause at 27 mil lol but that aint happenin.

Could have been possible if we didn't sign paulinho. 17 million plus the 10 million we were going to spend on villa.

Paulinho was a very important signing unless you liked seeing Hudd lumbereing about in our midfield last season.
