The way I look at it now I'm more grown up being a footballer is in reality just a job and no matter what job you do if your offered more money you will take it. As fans we forget no player feels the love for the club we do! Yes sure if it was one of us in bales shoes a life long fan we would laugh and not move!.
But he's not a spurs fan he's a spurs player a spurs asset just like the reason why any other player joins us because in reality we offered them a better job on higher pay.
GB is not worth a 100 million nobody is in life when there's people starving in Africa it's ludicrous we could sell bale to Madrid tomorrow but by Monday next week he could have fallen down the stairs and broke his neck and never play football again. Or we could accept 100 million invest 50 million of it in transfers and pocket 50 million of it towards our stadium training ground whatever!. It's logical business sense in reality maybe we all need to take a step back and let our heads rule out heart we ain't on par with Madrid we ain't on par even with united and even they can't cope when Madrid come knocking so just remember what ever happens we had the privilege of watching GB turn into the superstar he is dont hate him and don't hate levy football is a crazy world.

If Bale leaves i don't think we will sign any "star" names. And im cool with that
i dont need a marquee signing to justify his sale, hope others dont either
Imo we will do what have been and go after young talent that have potential.

If Gareth does bail (pun intended), no we don't have to sign an "established" star per say. However, we must sign a top quality young player with star potential ala Lamela (or if we can't - Griezmann perhaps), followed by a pacy attack-oriented LB (in the mould of Alex Sandro), and closed by a creative wide forward (who can also moonlight as a support striker or a CAM, such as Ljajic).
IMHO, the aforesaid trio would be the bare minimum required to even begin to adequately replace Bale.

PS. If somehow we could manage those three, then perhaps after getting rid of some deadwood, we could also add someone like McCarthy for quality CDM/CM depth (unless of course we sign Vlad the Impaler first, who can be utilized as CB/RB or even DM).

JJ - have RM officially bid for Bale yet?
Is it close to what THFC wants?
Thanks...

If we sold bale for 100 million and replaced him with
Andreas Guardado, greizman,Lamela,Di Maria or whatever replacement.
Then went and bought coentrao & another creative midfielder as well as Chicheres

We would be better off as a team after all there is no I in team

I think a lot of us had kind of come to terms with him going last night, late last night even more so. But then today we have every Tom dick and Harry saying he is staying, it gets to people. And the other thing is would we replace him with a quality player? And invest the £50m for example?

Problem is, we start running out of space after the first 11 players that we put out on the pitch...
The benefit of Bale is that he provides all of those attributes in one person. I sooooooo want to hear that he will give us at least one more season so we can see what this squad can do.

Yes 1 was Soldado.

If it was uo to you JJ who would you like to replace Bale? personally would love Draxler but that's unrealistic.
Griezman & Dzagoev , Martins Indi & Morata i'd be happy maybe a 5th cb or lb if I was been greedy but even at that I think we'd be stronger even without Bale.
Who would u go for?

That deal seems to change every hour. Was seemingly back on this morning, before the excitement was quelled once again by further tweets from various Romanian sources. Would really like to see it happen, looks like a really talented utility type player, versatile enough to cover some positions where we lack some depth (CB, RB, DM).

Buy that lot and I'd need a new rig after all the jizzing that would pour forth.

When a player of GB's quality comes along you should rule with your hearts not your heads. He will bring us to the promised land... It's about Glory remember!

So do I buddy, so do I.
That would be priority #1, first and foremost.

I don't know whether he will stay or go but all I know is I'm sick of seeing his name and the circus that's going on with it.
If levy sold him for that money I think he would have no choice but to invest if either wise the fans would go wild! He would need a massive name just to save face!.

You will never replace bale like for like there's no other player in the world like him. Sadly!. But remember at times last year how disjointed and unfluid we looked or how the team would just rely on bale to get us out of trouble if he wernt here we may see a lot more players step up!. But also with new signings we could see a stronger unit as a whole and in return a more successful team then if bale didn't turn up like many times last season we would still have the quality to our teams to the sword.

We also forget his injury record is not great

Everyone keeps thinking we'll sign all these star players IF we sold Bale.....don't count on it. We sell our best player and have NO CL to offer! That's why DI Maria (if reports are correct) doesn't want to switch places. Why would Lamala? Would Levy spend GBP 35 mil to get him of the Bale money? I don't think so.......

Best scenario is keep him for a year and take our chances of getting back into CL. We've made a few signings this year, showed ambition moving forward and the race is wide open this year particularly with all the manager changes.

I agree with you.
He is also a very talented ball-playing CB, and his versatility can't be underestimated. Indeed.

Don' t know if its been posted but even our new signing Soldado has apparently said:

"I think everybody knows about Gareth Bale. He's a great player. It will be hard to keep him but I hope he stays with Tottenham"

Agreed, looks very quick too.

Shame if it has collapsed, but we are dealing with an inmate!

I agree totally about waiting for him to do something special, that for me was why a lot of teams parked the bus and sat back because of his blistering runs through on his own, I just hope we sign a really quality player to replace him or a couple who can make the difference, I don't however agree about the injury thing, it's not really his fault if someone stands on his ankles and bends them 90 degrees.

Well, I'm not saying it would be easy by any stretch of the imagination but Roma have failed to qualify for Europe completely again, he isn't on mahoosive wages and, however tenuous it might be, there is the Baldini connection. Couple that with an progressive young coach and ya never know.

I think Lamela could be far more gettable than Di Maria and I'd prefer him as well.

Like I said, chances are we wouldn't be able to do it but if GB does go what should we do? Just go after Hoolahan at Narge instead because he'd come to us?

Anyways, he hasn't left, as you say, and might not do so. So we can worry about that when it happens I guess.

Also, I don't know where Bale thinks he will fit in to the team at RM? I think they will want to play him at LB. That's how crazy they are over there. Just shoe-horn them in any-old how.

Where else realistically would you see him fitting in to the team? I'm not so sure he would even be a first eleven player there. Maybe on the bench a lot like RatBoy.

He must be thinking about this musn't he?
