At least if Pochettino comes in we won't have fans complaining about what gets said at post-match interviews anymore.

I wouldn't have put them far off. Especially after they've spent more than most teams in the league since they came back up.
I wouldn't have put them 8th. I wouldn't have had them relegated either, but I think he's done an exceptional job with them.

Ok, another question. Did you honestly expect Saints to have 3 players in the England squad at the start of the season. Honestly? Hand on heart, stick a needle in your eye?

Honestly?

So this meeting with Poch "went well" apparently. I can see it now :.

Poch : "so I don't want any of the top players sold"

Levy : "can you tell your bloody translator to speak up, I'm going a bit mutton"

Poch : "DO NOT SELL VERTS, LLORIS, ERIKSEN or SANDRO OK! "

Levy : "we don't sell out best players here, hamster cheeks"

Poch : " that's not what I've heard"

Levy : "you have my word"

Poch : "Lol"

Levy : "look, do you want the job or not? Southapton are shite, we're much better. Ask Ossie. "

Poch : "I would but I can't understand a word he says"

Levy : "me neither. See, this is going well, we're getting on great. Until I sack you, obviously. Don't worry though, you'll get a great severance package, we know how to look after our sacked managers here."

Poch : "Ok, where do I sign?"

I honestly don't think getting into the England squad is that big of a deal. Gibbs is currently a better player than Shaw - Shaw is more hype than ability imo. Lallana is a good player, but still meh to me. Lambert is there through lack of competition, same way Welbeck is still there.

I guess that's why they scored fewer goals than us, and let almost as many in.

Meanwhile, whilst Bobby-darling (glad you two—and Tino-baby!—are on such touchingly close terms!) is getting oodles of supply, what happens to our best striker?
I see you've crawled out of your scum hole then.

Spring truly has sprung.

Good winter rest?

Absolutely agree. He inherited some outstanding home-grown players (I don't know what they do down there, but we could have done with some of it at Spurs over the years) and was given the thick end of £40m to spend last summer and didn't spend it too effectively—Osvaldo, anyone? That's a pretty decent squad he's had at his disposal, and to be fair he's had them playing some pretty football at times, but is a 38% win percentage that great? At best, he's achieved par.

If van Gaal had still been on the cards (and who knows, he and the media may have been counting unhatched chickens) it would have been a no-brainer. Now, none of the potential successors to Sherwood comes without a question mark.

We knew we were looking for a manager back in December !!!! If spurs levy and this spurs board had any ambition they would have got their man back then and nailed him to a pre contract ... 5 months on they still searching ... They knew they had break clause so if van gaal was pulling their wire waiting for bigger club , fine , move onto next manager target .... I'm sure players like managers know they won't be sticking around
Hands up, honestly, did anyone really tip Saints to finish 8th this season? You know, honestly at the start of the season?

Honestly?

I tipped spurs for 8th lol but Southampton are better than all rest of sides and my dark horses to do well . More to do with players they have though , too much emphasise is on manager these days imvho ... Yes a great good one helps but if you have proper players then it's 100% better

We've got proper players, but they've been badly managed/coached.

Exactly. I didn't think they were doing that badly under Adkins, and I certainly don't think Pochettino had them performing significantly better. He did improve them, but they were already playing quite well and holding their own in the Prem.

There is not a shot in hell they would be finishing were they are now under Adkins even though he wasn't disastrous.

Admittedly quite a few were surprised by his sacking but Adkins was forgotten extremely quickly and that was down to Pochettino doing very well. Ferguson said they were the best team to play at OT at that point in the season to.

If you actually look at how they've performed against the better sides in the League under Poch, its been impressive. Not always on the right side of the result of course but they've shown more balls and played better football against the better sides than we've shown over the last season or so.

Poch has definitely improved them- I didn't even know who Lallana was at the time of this game

Eriksen has already stated he will stay, Lloris leaving would be a blow and Vertonghen isn`t anywhere near as good as he thinks he is or gets credit for on here, he can`t even get ahead of Vermaelen for Belgium.

Eriksen - great, if he stays...
Lloris - understand why he would want to go, hope he doesn't cos we will not get similar replacement
Verts - 12/13 he was one of best CBs in PL. Played out of position too many times in 13/14 and lost interest - but again we would be hard pressed to get a better replacement

i swear, some of you will be unhappy with our new manager no matter who it ends up being. i just wish you people weren't so vocal with your negativity.

im excited about pochettino though. you can't deny he's done a good job at Southampton.

Why should people just hum and act like they agree with every decision? This is a forum, where people express their opinions. We don't all have to blindly spew spurious positivity.

Some seem to find Poch underwhelming because Saints are doing no better than you'd expect them to. I tipped them in 9th ahead of the season, so to som extent I'm inclined to agree. That does, however, not make him a bad option, cos as you say, we've got proper players. If Poch were to get the potential out of the squad, I'd say we'd be on the same level as Arsenal.

We shouldn't be looking for a miracle worker, cos there are so few of them anyway. What we should be looking for is someone who can make the squad perform on the level that's expected of them, and I believe Poch fits that bill.

And how have they performed against the less-than-better sides? Sure, we've been appalling against the Sky Four this season, under both Villas-Boas and Sherwood, but that's hardly anything new; outside the top four, we've been very solid indeed.
