Sorry, but he was not worth £27m.
That's a matter of perspective. If he made the difference between several PL places (and therefore increased prize money) would you still say that?

Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate. Something Enic have always been reluctant to do.

Ali Z on COYS:

I know a lot of you will be upset by the window, we clearly need improvements in CM, LWF and CF.
It is not that easy, it is not just down to finances.
Poch wanted to reduce the squad we have gone some way to doing this, he wanted to start building from the back and we have bought in a keeper and 4 defenders.
He is keen to improve in other positions and we were never going to get all targets, am sure we will be back in for J-Rod and MS in January as well as looking for alternatives.
It is important that we keep reducing the squad so that Poch can get the squad he wants, there are whole host of players that he does not see as a long term part of his plans, hopefully we will be able to get rid of some of these in Jan.
Poch has a reputation as a good coach and he will now have to work with what he has but he was always happy to do so, as I said he never thought he would get everything sorted in 1 window. Patience is required by the fans and the board, if anybody failed this summer it was Levy not selling players so we never had the space to bring in others.

That's not a surprise really.

Bentley springs to mind.

To be honest I'm relatively happy with the signings we made. Considering we signed a few great players last summer. I'm just gutted about the sale of Sandro.

Looking forward to Levy's statement... :)

I can tell you what its going to say, if you can't wait for the official version.

We identified some areas of the squad that need improvement

We brought in exciting young talent who will compete for spots in the squad each week

We unfortunately had to say good bye to some longstanding members of our squad as we build toward the future and re-balance the squad to fit the Head Coach's philosophy.

We are very excited about this squad and expect big things. We will reevaluate where we are in January and make moves as appropriate.

Did you see those two goals Dier scored?

If Pochettino was so happy with the squad then what's all the ITK we've been hearing? How many posts have there been about Pochettino wanting Schneiderlin at Spurs? How about other so-called upgrades like Musacchio?

Don't worry, the usual excuses will be trotted out for failing. But don't you think it's wearing a bit thin now?

Of course Pochettino will say he's happy with the squad. I just don't think he is.

Pochettino has just been Levied. Welcome to Tottenham Hotspur!

I'd read Trix's latest post for how I see it. Poch has not been Levyed at all. That probably suits your agenda though.

Because I think we're light in attacking options, you're spouting that shite?

Do me a favour. I was one of the biggest advocates on here supporting the appointment of Pochettino.

You were. Sorry mate, I know you're cool, just getting a bit pissed off with all the knee-jerk negativity from some and misdirected my ire.

Sorry, but he was not worth £27m. And no, a club that turns our level of profit does not go all Ridsdale for a gamble. It just can't. For Financial Fair Play reasons as much as generally having the money reasons!! It's a fairly basic concept isn't it?

In what way is one signing, which would even the balance sheet for this summer, going to bankrupt the club or bring us outside of the FFP rules? Seriously, explain that one to me mate because that makes less sense than Man Utd signing 9 left backs.

But at the same time, he was happy with all of them. Which, to me, suggests he can coach players his vision of how football should be played. Christ, that sounds better to me than relying on particular types of players and specific players. If he identifies a general set of skills that he needs in a player then that could suggest they are more interchangeable.

We're both guessing to fit our moods ultimately. Albeit mine is a bit more backed up with Poch saying that he's happy with the squad.

Agree to disagree.
He can coach players, which is the main reason we employed him. The fact that he's happy to work with what he has is logical. We were never going to sell everyone, I don't think anyone expected that, but I think most of us expected one of Lennon or Andro to go and a better option to come in. That didn't materialise, which is a kick in the teeth as I don't think Lennon at 28 can improve his game and I don't think Townsend possesses the brain cells needed to follow tactical instructions.
