yeah i read that he was a free agent which is quite amazing as Jonas is a pretty good striker. I was surprised nobody had signed him up yet perhaps this would be a good deal.

Worked very well with Soldado but I doubt we'll sign a 30 year old.

He's actually alright isn't he?
he is fairly good, quite speedy and good skill on the ball although he has never been amazing, he's been in double figures for valencia though for the last few seasons.

We've used up are 17 non- homegrown spaces haven't we, so we can't sign him I think.

30 is hardly old. Dont see a problem with a 1-2 year deal. It's a free transfer, hardly a risk. We lack experience and goals too, its a logical signing IMO. Saying that it's probably BS...

Oh, no I agree to you with an extent. I'd personally have no issue signing a 30 year old. My only worry would be that it would sideline Kane who if he continues to improve and get game time at the current rate in which he is, he could turn into a regular starter for us in a season or two.

If this is true it sounds like a break glass in case of emergencies signing.

He won't be taking anyone's spot, but can come in for injuries/suspensions.

Good idea, especially given his flexibility.

Are we really worrying about the resale value of a player that has no transfer fee?

But if get Jonas it means we probably won't get someone else who will have it and you lose that potential money. You spend couple of millions on his wages and then let him go for free or 1m. Or you get somebody else and than sell him for 10m more you payed for him. Although in case of Jonas some Russian club might pay couple of millions for him even in a year or two.

Also it would be better to let Kane develop than use some 30 year old as a third option.

Kaboul can move on a free in January and Ceballos could go on loan.

If we effectively swap Dembele for Schneiderlin, that would also create a spare O/S spot.

I'm not convinced Jonas is an upgrade on Kane though tbh.

I also think he'll move to Brazil or Russia, rather than twiddle his thumbs waiting for the European window to open again.

The 17 non-homegrown limit is certainly a problem, unless Mason and/or Ceballos are lined up for a loan to the Championship, or Kaboul is set to retire.

Mason is homegrown.

Overseas wont be a problem come January as I doubt both Kaboul and Chiriches will both survive the window and both our main/Soton targets are homegrown. Ceballos (loan) and Friedel (recall Archer instead) are players we can do something with too.
