You never should slag off your players, thats a thing Sherwood cost his job. But you shouldnt act deluded and deny what everybody else sees because then you cant be sure the coach can change the obvious weakness's
Mourinho does.
Did Cahill dive, No

i am going to stick my head out and contradict 90% of you on here.

we did not have a poor game.

it was never going to be an easy game, swansea are great at home, they move the ball well and in bony, they have genuine goal threat every time they get to the final third... and then the rain and wet pitch meant that controlling the ball, and weighing passes became a little more difficult than usual.... plus the fact that they are also a pressing team... so it is not a surprise, heck in fact, it should be a given that in this match we were always going to lose possession because of miscontrols, bad passes, losing 50-50 on occasion and interceptions.

those who played very well - lloris, walker, davies, kane
those who played well enough - verts, fazio, eriksen
hardworking and under the radar - bentaleb mason, i would put lamela here too but am a little disappointed he didn't do more offensively, defensively though, i give him credit...
soldado - i felt the game was too fast, too wet, too tight, too physical, too hurried for him today, hence he didn't get to stamp his mark.

more importantly, today's substitutions and the timing of them were all spot on.

at 1-1, we needed to shore up the middle without compromising too much our attack, dembele for soldado worked well... dembele dictated the tempo well today ironically by slowing the game down... (we usually slaughter him for slowing our attack down)

stambouli was a beast when he came on, and beside winning 50-50s and interceptions, he was calm and composed and looked to play good balls to the final third and especially when swansea started to tire.

i felt 80 mins was perfect for lamela, because as swansea tire, he became more prominent in the attacking third and with stambouli, he can afford to push forward that little bit more, ditto eriksen. and he had to go for fresh legs and prevent a red.

i cannot rave enough about walker and davies today... if walker had been fitter, we would see why the inverted winger aka lamela on the right is no longer a problem.

and i also felt that if we could hold out beyond 75 mins, we will create more chances in the last 10 mins... swansea really started to tire... siggurdsson and bony became anonymous and the defence started to make mistakes.

up steps eriksen kane dembele stambouli and even bentaleb who pressed high... and our defence also move up to half way line, and as all tired defenders do, they started to hoof the ball up instead of playing it out and fazio and vert had easy time heading clear, and playing bony offside.

in fact, just like pre season, we could have had 1 more if kane had been a little less tired, or go down for the penalty

so all in all, i am actually happy with the performance, given the circumstances. and of course, delighted with the result.

one poster said man utd are improving and we are not... i wholeheartedly disagree... the jigsaw is starting to piece together very nicely.
I have to disagree on Mason and Bentaleb with the hard working bit. Barely even noticed they were playing.

Individual skill. Are you honestly going to try and spin that performance into an affirmation of Pochettino's influence? We were shit for the vast majority of the match, and Pochettino did absolutely nothing to change it.

A tiny handful of performances can be attributed to Pochettino's positive influence. Today's was despite him.

After the game on Thursday night, all you did was come out with jokes against Tottenham. But its the same point I was trying to make in the opening pages of this thread, that we've a better mindset on the road these days - yet you get people nitpicking over this shit.

Were we great? No. But we've more about us these days to come away with a win. If you can't welcome that Jesus Christ. And its no coincidence now.

Looks to me like the players just can't execute MP's attacking gameplan.

The hard work and off the ball work was very good, but nowhere near enough shots on goal. Lamela looks the most lost out of all of them. Swansea are good at keeping the ball and I didn't really see us controlling the game away from home with a midfield due of Carroll/Bentaleb. The subs were spot on in this regard.

You are, of course, assuming one exists.

I wonder if the penny will drop that it might be an idea to drop Soldado, go with one up front and play an extra man in midfield.

when will mopo drop lamela. not until lamela improves his decision making, he should be played as an impact sub against tired legs. kudos to his work rate, but i still prefer lennon starting over him

By some incredible good fortune we find ourselves seventh in the table. I'm starting to believe we might blunder our way past the Arseoles at this rate.

This is one of the posters you don't get in to a discussion with about Lamela if you have something positive to say.

It will not be acknowledged.

Nothing good that he does can ever be seen by certain posters on here.

Even his mother would admit he was piss poor today.

Surpport the players by all means but don't forever be in denial of what all of us are witnessing. He was very poor today and we competed better when Poch again removed him from further harm.

Man U have taken 6 points after getting played off the pitch against Arsenal and Southampton so fk it, I'll take it but Christ we look disorganised.
I'd like to see 451 Kane up front, Erikson behind him, Chadli lw, Lennon rw, Stambouli and Mason maybe.
What I really wanna see is round pegs in round holes, Lamela dropped (we're playing with bloody 10 men) and Soldado, sorry mate, times up.
Def need proper wingers in front of full backs because with Lamela and Erikson they're left exposed plus we're too narrow.
couldnt agree more with all of this

How did you think lamela did today mate ? And do you think he done enough to start the next game ?

I didnt think he was fantastic.
I didnt think he was shit.

I thought he worked tirelessly. A couple of his presses and putting his foot in set off our better counter attacks. Him and Kane seem to at least try and implement a semblance of Pochs philosophy,

It was his first game with Walker, a defender who will suit Lamelas game. That could blossom.

I think he was as good or better than Mason, Bentaleb and Soldado.

Love Soldado, but think it should be him to make way and not Lamela at this moment in time.

Think you have to play dembele or stambouli over mason. He's much to lightweight and positionally unstable to.play in a middle 2.
Dembele is frustration but he benefits defensively much more and helps retain greater possession.

Not sure what we do with Bob. Only looks good playing deeper.
Lamela is an inconsistent young player who makes poor choices shock horror. The abuse he gets is over the top and a bit vile. He didn't demand Tottenham pay 30 mill for him.

I have no idea what poch is training this team in. Looks more random than tims team
Spot on

Lets see what happens in the window. Soladado and Lamela could generate cash which could be used to buy a pacey centre forward to play with Kane or Eriksen. Liked the look of their left back.
I can't see Lamela going anywhere yet. Soldaldo to Swansea for Bony plus 26m maybe?

Lamela may not have played that well today, but in the first half especially imdont think anyone put In as much as a shift as he did. He is willing. The capable part is there too. More games and he will get fitter and stronger and more used to the league.

Don't forgot it's his first proper seasons in a notoriously tough league , he is young and adjusting to life in a different country.

Please don't do a Jenas. Livermore etc on him.
