Tottenham better hurry up and tie Bentaleb to a long term contract...what the hell are their waiting for.

Bentaleb is fast becoming my favourite player (Kane,Eriksen,Mason)

He signed a new long term contract after the World Cup last summer.

Martin Samuel in the Mail gave him 5 out of 10, said he was ineffectual. I like Martin Samuel but I think he's wrong, in fact his whole match write up of our team and individual players just stinks. He also glorified Chelsea. Lord knows why they were not any better than us, but they were lucky. He said Costa terrorised our defence, that is just not true.
Totally agree and not wanting to defend Martin Samuels too much but the ratings were by someone called Sam Cunningham

I thought Bentaleb was the best player on the pitch

Pochettinho philosophy is the way forward imo...although we hear cry of not having plan B. I like the way we play. With a few better players to add ie at CB, wings with pace, support up front for Kane

We played Liverpool at Anfield and against 352 we were well in that game. Against Chelski 433 again we were in control. What's needed imo are a few more better players.
Disagree, I think the wings aren't as bad as we make out they are.

The real issue for us is DM, we just need someone who is very good at protecting that back four to give the wingers more licence to go forward more and the two CM to go forward without always looking over their shoulder and try some riskier stuff

I will good on the record and say that Bentaleb will be world class. At Wembley he totally controlled that midfield with the like of Fabregas no where near him.

I can't believe people wrote him off last season under Sherwood the same I hear people now saying of Mason. We need to give these two all the time possible. Against Chelski our midfield was on top.
I thought Mason was pretty ineffective actually, Dembele should start vs the top teams and Mason's tryhard attitude and risk taking, running forward, shooting, etc seems more fitting vs the lower half Prem teams. Ironically we were losing until Dembele replaced Mason at WHL, too.

Agreed though, said for a while Bentaleb will be world class.

He ran the show defensively for Algeria. A 19 year old proving himself at that position on the international stage is all I needed to see to be convinced by how good he will be. Hopefully we can hang on to him for a long time.

Costa has drawn criticism for his combative style of play this year, but Bentaleb refused to condemn the striker, who went unpunished for the incident with the Algerian.

“Was he lucky not to be given a card? Maybe. I don’t know what was happening in his head, but I stayed focused on my game,” Bentaleb said.

“Sometimes you have arguments with players. It’s nothing bad. This kind of thing happens every weekend.”

Really pleasantly surprised while reading this. I have my worries on if he's a bit too passionate sometimes that if he can't keep it under control on the field, or somewhat Rose-like if you would. But after the interaction yesterday against one of the "best" in Costa, on taking people out of their games, he was able to concentrate on the game instead of allowing it to turn into a personal battle with Costa in his head - and you are almost always in a disadvantage position when you are not an offensive player, a card or two waiting to happen. I'm sure he'd get booked a few times later on like everyone who gets too emotional, but at least he's got that inner discipline in place early. Keep up the good work.

It's mad to think he is only 20! He is a first team regular in a very important part of the pitch

Might have mentioned this in here before, so apologies if so, but I have no doubt that long term he will be our best youth product of any of those who have recently broke through, above even Kane. He really is top notch.

Hopefully he continues to do what he is doing while remaining under the radar. Liking that he isn't getting much media attention.

All the money we spent on CMs and this guy is as close as we've got to a Modric replacement.

I'd say it's both. The wide areas are an issue because of the way we are trying to play. The wing backs aren't good enough at crossing. With regards to the two attacking wide players one of them has to be effective as a second striker (15+ goals a season) and support the lone man and the other has to be creative. We lack both.

We also seriously lack quality in the centre of the park. Sorry Bentaleb fans but I just don't see the fuss yet. He is too much of a bits and pieces player for me. Defensively he isn't great, he isn't that creative and he doesn't chip in with many goals. He has youth on his side but I already fear he'll be one of those players in 5 years time we'll all be saying "he had so much promise but just didn't improve". I hope I'm wrong. He does keep the ball moving and has a great attitude. Maybe he'd work well alongside a pure DM just getting up and down the pitch supporting.

Did you watch the Cup final? I would be very surprised if anyone who watched that game would say that they didn't see what the fuss was about in regards to Bentaleb. For a 20 year old, he was fantastic, he had the upper hand on Chelsea's midfield for most of the game and his mentality is great, he never gets fazed, he doesn't take any shit from anyone yet doesn't get into petty squabbles and go after vendettas.

I agree with you on our wing backs and their crossing ability and also think our two attacking players leave a lot to be desired.

Have said it since the beginning, he has talent...a lot, but he needs to remain consistent. He has the boots of a god one game and then goes missing others. The sky is the limit and he has the talent to be a huge player for us, but needs to get to the point where very few mistakes are present. The only thing keeping him from getting to the point of stardom is time.

He needs to play AM wasted in that DM role
agree he needs to be given more attacking license from deep but he needs to have the perfect partner to allow him to do this and i think that's why we bought dele ali and why we will see the ali in the first team next year.

Do you think Alli would give him license to do this? From what I have seen from Alli his is a box to box player that like to get forward, so I would have thought the opposite and a more defensive partner would allow Bentaleb to do this.

When talkin Spurs, I have banged on about Harry for a good few months now. His attitude and goals have given me something to buzz about Spurs again. I now find myself talkin "Bentaleb and Kane" in the same breath.

Since his NY day performance against Chelsea, I have watched him closely. He has been immaculate, he is so precise under pressure, he has good vision and a good first touch. I keep thinking next game his form will have disappeared, it was a fluke of a performance, but he keeps doing it. He's so cool, he can drink boiling water, and piss ice!

seriously though, with both of these two in their rookie season, next year we will really find how good they are.

I have never seen Bentaleb go missing in any game. He gives his all every game from start to finish.

As good as Bentaleb played he still didn't pick up Fabregas for Chelsea's second goal.

He'll need to improve his positional awareness if we're going to tighten up at the back.

Maybe go missing is the wrong verbiage, but he has a game every 3 or so where you question his decision making. Think it was against Liverpool where he had at least 3 back passes that sent Sturridge through on goal.
