An Arsenal scout has revealed he was sent to watch Tottenham forward Son Heung-min 30 times last season while he was still with Bayer Leverkusen.

The South Korean international has impressed since moving to Spurs this summer, and the Gunners employee told The Secret Footballer about his frustration surrounding the deal.

Asked why the move never came to anything, the scout said: ‘It’s Arsene Wenger. He’s so indecisive it’s frightening.’

Arsenal had a quiet summer in the transfer market, only bringing in goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea

I doubt any Korean players will join Arsenal while Wenger's in charge. I heard that Wenger's treatment of Park Chu Young, who at the time was national team's most important striker, angered many Korean fans and created a backlash against Arsenal. It was really a bizarre signing for Arsenal, which never seemed to fancy him right from the beginning.

More scouting detail which tells what a great signing he is.

Below are the best bits from the Secret Footballer’s latest blog:

I met up with my friend, an Arsenal scout, last week.

We talked through players and clubs and he noted that Chelsea’s problems are all being caused by in-house feuding among the players, who are all pointing fingers at one another.

The worst, he told me, is Cesc Fabregas.

I pointed out that Tottenham Hotspur’s summer recruit, Son Heung-min, is one of the most impressive players I’ve seen at White Hart Lane since Gareth Bale.

Immediately, the scout took his phone out of his pocket and showed me a scouting report from last season. This is how it read …

* Scares the life out of defences. Feet are scarily quick, can turn in any direction.

* Keeps his shape, good discipline, counters quickly, carries the ball a long way up the pitch, aware of team-mates in better positions.

* Scores goals from great positions in the box that others don’t take up (Ljungberg). Hard to pick up and track.

* Fit, doesn’t stop working.

* Different to anything that we have in the building.

* CAN PLAY FOR US ALL DAY LONG!!

That was one of several reports he showed me that got better and better.

Arsenal watched Son almost 30 times last season, with all the scouts in agreement that the player would be a fantastic addition.

So what happened?

“It’s Arsene [Wenger],” the scout said. “He’s so indecisive it’s frightening. We had [Morgan] Schneiderlin done and dusted last January and, by the summer, the gaffer had changed his mind. Son was 100 per cent perfect for us.”

They do have about 15 attacking midfielders / forwards etc including cazorla, ozil, Sanchez.

Hardly a priority signing for them

Sanchez is much much sharper than Son in terms of agility and quickness of feet. It's unreal. Hopefully once he gets up to pace with the game we'll see similar from him.
Sanchez is one of the very best players in world football, Son is not nearly on that level (albeit a good player).

Doesn't Son feel like such a tease? I wanted him for a few years, but when he puts on the club you loves shirt, immediately does well, and then goes down with an injury it's like a horrible, cruel joke.

I can't wait until he returns. I think him starting on the left, with hopefully him and Lamela/Eriksen switching positions fluidly, and a finishing Kane we could have such an awesome attack to watch.

Son being back could also do wonders for Njie. I think he's going to be quite a talent for us, but if he could be afforded the opportunity to make his mark as a pacy, impact sub it could see his confidence really grow.
