I don't disagree, and I probably illustrated my point a bit poorly. I think we could probably get away with a few changes, i.e. the fullbacks, and Kane's strike partner. But I think injuries/suspensions to one of Alli/Lingard, Kane, and Henderson and we lose a lot of our shape. I don't think the other set of other players offer enough dynamism of the midfielders i mentioned, and obviously no one is as potent as Kane.

I think a WC is all about momentum. He should have balanced resting players with keeping up the momentum. Should have made 4 changes max imo. Winning breeds confidence.

Belgium weren't hungry tonight. If we'd taken it seriously playing Kane, Henderson, Lingard etc. we'd have won this. If we took the lead he could have always taken players off knowing a draw was enough.

Is it really the best half of the draw as well?

Mexico could easily beat Brazil, and we could easily go out to Colombia or Sweden in the QF who've looked far greater than the sum of their parts so far.

100% this.

Look if England really wanted to win that game they would have played their best side, there is no momentum lost at all and this is therw best chance in a generation for the England team to go far in a major tournament.

I dont see any negatives, bar losing to Colombia but they have looked pretty pony

Some people have been waiting for their chance to moan about England and their not gonna let it slip

People who want to see England win every match and keep the momentum up are not moaning because they don't want the team to do well.

True but if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle, look at the bigger picture

Southgate has shown his inexperience here in my opinion. Pressure is on to deliver a good performance against Colombia now.
The pressure would be there regardless of who we play though.
The first team didn’t play, they’ll be bang up for it against Columbia.

The bed wetting on here is ridiculous

I find it frustrating how England managers either can't work out what their best team is more or less before a competition or know but then don't actually give that team as much opportunity to play together before important matches and build up an understanding. Is Welbeck realistically going to play in any further game considering there's three quality strikers in front of him? It's pointless

Not really sure what Southgates done wrong. He decided to rest the first team so they'd avoid injury and be fitter for the next game. That decision could prove important if the next game goes to extra time.

Watch Mexico beat Brazil now... This concept that there's an "easier" draw at a world cup is misguided.
Would you rather have Brazil in the semis (let's just pretend we make it that far - for the more sensitive among us), or Switzerland? Personally, I would feel more confident facing Switzerland. It's not arrogance. It is what it is. Brazil are a better team. And I'm sorry if some delicate fans feel offended by this.

And if Fellaini 'tackled' Kane, ruling him out for rest of the tournament, the fans and media would want Southgate's head for playing our only world class player in a match he didn't need to play. There was no point in risking the likes of Kane, Henderson, and Lingard because today has shown we need them for the knockout stage as the back-ups aren't up to the required standard.

Why pile the pressure on though! Doesnt make any sense.
I agree that a full strength lineup would have been preferable - we are not in the luxurious position of making loads of changes against top sides but we're still in the world cup and he'll pick a full strength side for Columbia.
