The thing about putting a large fee on him, if true, is that you can't then turn around and offer below superstar wages and other conditions in contract negotiations with him. If you've planted that flag in the ground regarding a world elite transfer fee, then the salary offer should be of similar heft.

I hope he signs on with us for longer. Big money is handy, but achievement on the pitch would be difficult to maintain and improve upon without him.

We're offering £200-250k according to that report. Not a small amount.

He isn’t for sale. We don’t want to sell him, hence the crazy asking price. Ergo, not for sale.
Every player is for sale at the right price if and it's a big if the player wants to go then it's a club's responsibility to get the best price possible but like I say if that is the case.

No, he's for sale when we say, we want to get rid, here's what we want for him. My point is, we have not put him up for sale, because we want to keep him. Just because some clubs could, in theory, offer him a lot of money, doesn't mean he's for sale. Messi at Barca in his prime, was not for sale. I'm running out of ways to express 'he's not for sale', just because someone might want to buy him.

It's like saying your house is for sale. Because in theory, someone could offer you 3x what it's worth. I think we're not going to agree on this one (y)

I hear what your saying mate but you can't use Messi as a comparison as he has been at one of the best teams in the world for the past decade and only Madrid are bigger and they would never sell to them so it's not a valid argument for me.
However like you I hope the club do resist any attempts to prize him away if we are serious about future title and or champions league challenges we need to keep our best players, so the summer will most certainly be an interesting one in regards to how they back poch with the requisite target's that meet his ambitions.

If we link wages to transfer value, Neymar cost £195m and earns about £600k a week.

Fair enough. I think if we value him at Kane level, then he's gonna be on Kane-level wages.

Absurd amounts, but it is what it is.

Agree, and like Kane, it needs to be a structured deal where he has to earn it every week, not just turn up. (ALL players, in all teams, in all countries should do this)

Hes's for sale the moment he says he wants to go and won't sign a new contract.
Nothing we can do about it other than get the best deal possible. You can shame Mr Bosmans hand for that.

Wages aren't linked to transfer fees though. Neymar is one of the most marketable players in the world. Also that is the price we are asking. Nobody is going to pay it because eriksen isn't worth that much.

If they are replacing Isco
then Hazard's yer man.
If Modric or Kroos
which I'm not sure they are yet
then Eriksen is not high profile enough.
Not flashy or sparkling enough
in a Real Madrid kind of way.
to keep the fans/ new President happy.

My feeling is that Christian
will re-sign for us.

he's not going to Real Madrid then, they have been investing in very young players recently , last established world class players they bought were James Rodriquez and Toni Kroos in 2014

they also need £500M + to improve their own stadium
James Rodriguez was far from established, hence he's no longer there.

We didn't put Carrick, Berbatov, Modric or Bale up for sale. Does it matter the expression? Other forces than 'he is up for sale' will determine whether he stays or not.

Of course the use of words/expressions matter. It’s how we understand and get meaning. Anyway, pointless discussing it, we’re never going to agree.
