While I don't disagree with you, the idea that 'maybe next year we'll do better' is beginning to wear a little thin. We should be more focused on the here and now; that's a true winners mentality. It always seems to be about next year this and next year that, to me it's starting to get tiring. That's the source of the frustration many are feeling imo.

Well, despite Poch puffing his chest out in a recent presser, we've not been assembled to win major titles. That's City and Liverpool (and United and Chelsea in theory). We are punching above our weight. We're 'ahead of schedule', which is were the frustration comes from when we lose to a Watford or Burnley.

That's why 'there's always next season..'

Had the same feeling about this game as the one we played having beaten Manchester United previously. Poch kinda implied this too, talking about hoping to communicate to the players about the importance of the game, not believing the hype or thinking about the run of matches coming up...

I think this match is a classic case of players being unable to motivate themselves after coming off a series of highs. With Harry back, and the squad being close to full strength, our players breathed a sigh of relief too soon, and found themselves unable to match the intensity of a Burnley squad fighting mightily to avoid relegation. Yes, hind sight is 20/20 and Sanchez should have been used before Foyth. Nonetheless, I won't rule out our chances altogether as I'm sure Liverpool and Man City will also slipped up. All clubs are motivated to do their best against them.

Unfortunately, we have not been playing brilliantly recently, with the exception of our CL game with Dortmund. We have been scraping results and today our luck seems to have run out. It always seems to happen when we play teams like Burnley. First half we were poor and second half we improved slightly until we conceded the second goal. For us to be considered title contenders, we need to play to at a much better pace and unity as a team. Our main rivals coming up next saturday, and hopefully, we will recover and get a great result.

Im really not sure why Poch opted to drag Winks off when it would have been better served dragging off Sissoko.

I'm sure it's because of Sissoko's physicality and in a game that Sissoko showed that as part of his game I would agree, however he showed none of that today.

So it was the wrong call and looked obvious at the time too.

I would not use the word legends but we are certainly not winners... Really happens to often..
That's absolutely the right way to put the wording of the "are we legends?" debate. Fucking brilliantly put. We certainly shouldn't have any reason whatsoever to be ashamed of this team's achievements, but equally we shouldn't start confusing moral "aren't we doing really well considering our circumstances" victories with actual tangible achievements that result in silverware.

Just watched the game. Set up too defensively from the start imo which invites teams like Burnley to have a go rather than shit their pants and sit in their own half.
Before anyone says 5 at the back isnt necessarily more defensive just fk off.
You'll never see a team chasing a goal go from 4 at the back to 3 unless the manager is a fkin idiot.
Foyth. Why the fuck doesnt Poch give this guy match time when we are in front?
This was always going to be a physical game. He's too slight. He wants to dribble about with the ball and he just keeps getting out muscled.
Starting him was another mistake imo.
And finally, I've said it before but I'll say it again, sometimes we play like we are running the clock down even if we're behind. Its like we think ' meh, we'll score in a minute. Why rush?'
Speed it up Spurs put these shite teams under pressure from the start and show them why they should fear us. We've turned into fkin Arsenal trying to walk it in the net.
Oh and for the love of God can we practice corners please?
It's fkin embarrassing how shite we are at taking and defending them.
If I were a coach in charge of a team playing against Spurs I'd just tell my players to ping as many high balls into the box as possible. We can't defend them and always stick some 8 stone lightweight to defend their biggest fkin lump.
Annoys the shit outta me.
Peace.

People can say Foyth shouldn't have played, but the only way young players learn is from getting the minutes in those situations. And I think when you choose to play a youngster, you do it knowing they will struggle a bit at times and make mistakes and poor choices but the senior players and overall quality of the team around them should be able to absorb those moments and get through it. But when the three players around him today are Aurier the clown, Sissoko back to resembling a wardrobe, and Alderweireld being all over the shop and having one of the worst games I can recall from him, it's going to look worse. As a unit, across the park, there was total failure.

Could see this defeat a mile away,

1. Some of pochs comments in the weeks , cup final and we are not to be underestimated. Better to say nothing

2. Keep a winning team, 4 league games won on the spin with son up top keep that strategy , today he looked suffocated in kanes shadow, Kane was dropping very deep to get involved and probably being protected against the alehouse burnley centre backs

Disapointing, how many years will we have 50-60 goals in son , kane , Dele , Eriksen and continue to win nothing.

If I was poch you’d have to seriously consider taking over utd . Until levy opens the purse strings this is going to continue

I know this sounds ridiculous but the whole team seemed rusty yesterday. No one seemed to perform anywhere near his best and there were so many poor passes and crosses. Move on to the next game and forget about this one.

A little bit of no nonsense defending yesterday and we would have been fine.

I don’t think it’ll be next season when we are ready to truly compete. I think it’ll be more like 4/5 seasons. Just how it is.

I’d love a centre half who would handle these opponents for fun. Tony and Jan have enough class to counter the brutish approach but we do lack a physical monster who’d be great for these games. Foyth was tossed about like an empty tracksuit.

Bring back Fazio!:ROFLMAO:

I agree and you could have written this same post a lot of times this season to some degree. I also suggest saving it because I suspect you’ll need it again this season unfortunately!

What would 'truly competing' actually be?

Each time we are in, let us say, the title race, if we don't win it, then people say that we aren't truly competing.

So is truly competing actually winning it? Is that the only way we're 'truly' competing? Its a tough one. I'm not sure what is ever going to make us happy. It seems we're a hard bunch to satisfy :D

I’m satisfied and then some to be honest! We have a quality side who are punching above the clubs weight so to speak and it makes following the club even more exciting.

Truly competing is getting to that final hurdle. We’ve not been particularly close come the final game or two of the season during these apparent title challenges. This one was always going to be the least realistic imo. We’ll finish at least 10 points behind the winners this season which suggests not a real challenge imo.

We don’t spend enough money to truly compete for this league. We might start spending enough once settled and in the new gaff. That’s in a few years. That’s how I see it.
