Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached an agreement with Transport for London to rename the station near their new stadium after the Premier League club.

Does anyone really care what a train station is called?

I haven't commuted into or out of WHL station since about the 2009 season anyway. I go to SS then walk as I come in from London Victoria.

As someone who used to live a 2 minute walk from the station it feels a bit...icky. The football club is a major part of the local community but the community is more than just Spurs.

It will probably make more sense for people going to see NFL games who maybe not familiar with the area. If you have a Tottenham Hotspur station it makes it easy to know that it's going to take you to the new stadium. Maybe also good for some away fans as well.

For regulars it wont really make a difference. It's the same for fans who will continue to refer to the stadium as The Lane. New audiences probably wont even get the reference and not necessarily know it's the same as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This is nothing more than to take White Hart Lane out of the lexicon.

It sounds like stadium sponsors aren't willing to bite unless Spurs take pro-active steps to keep supporters from referring to the new stadium as NWHL.

I'm not really invested in the question, but this is pure cynicism. Only for commercial reasons, you can't have the stadium be "New sponsored stadium name, home of Tottenham Hotspurs", and the closest train station be "Old stadium name".

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Yeah, that was always my preferred route - quite a walk but preferable to queuing for ages at WHL.

Personally I prefer it to stay as WHL, because that's how I've always know it.

I'd save Tottenham Hotspur for any underground station should it ever be built.

I'd much rather have White Hart Lane. The stadium will be branded and named after some faceless Corporation whereas White Hart Lane was always part of the local community and culture. Seems like an attempt to remove it from the history books which is rather sad.

Also, White Hart Lane is the name of the road that the station is on. It was never just the name of our football ground.
