Tottenham became the first team to do the first 20th century double beating Leicester 2-0 in the Cup Final at Wembley.

This would come as a complete surprise to Leicester fans some 55 years later when they said "Spurs never win anything"

Thank you. I've heard similar 10-12k. Must have been a great night.

That old South Bank at the time was supposed to hold 30,000 alone.
.
It was the biggest stand I ever set foot in up until and always wondered why the home fans never used it.
It was also odd that the South Bank bucked the trend because I only knew of the North Banks st both Highbury and West Ham.
.
I always heard there were 10k of us there that night and don't want to enhance that figure the things get bigged up down the years. The gate for that night was only 38,000 plus.
.
It was pay on the night, first come first served like so many big games back then.
.
It was indeed a great night. One of the many I have been lucky to attend.

Man City v Tottenham. FA Cup replay.

38 years ago tonight - When Thursday night football was good.

Chris Hughton cameo at the start of the vid, Hoddle being Hoddle, that was a night of utter determination and joy. It was my generation's coming of age and with the events last week in Amsterdam I realise the effect and euphoria of that win last week will leave profound memories in the younger generations of Spurs fans forever more.
.

.
I chuckled watching the little video clip, wondering what an SC match thread 1980's style would have made of the final and the replay. Perhaps - FFS Ricky ? Who would have been the SC boo boy and those unborn neg reppers ?

Oh what memories you have brought back...I remember my wife being ill and I couldn't go to the match (yes...she really was that ill )
Watched it on our little TV instead with our next door neighbour who was in his eighties but an ardent Spurs fan. Ended up hugging him and being allowed to go out to the pub for an hour to celebrate.
Wonderful night....let's hope June 1st is another !
Thanks for posting that....made my day.(y)

Best story about the wolves game is that at the beginning of the season the wives were told if we get to the final it’s an all expenses paid trip to the away leg , end up getting 2 nights in Tipton

I reckon the 1981 side was one of the best I ever watched, we started to build a decent side from about 1978 onwards and it all went tits after Pleat. We really should have won a league title.

We could only get as far as Golders Green coming home from Wembley that night and a guy who was working in a bagel place came out with a handful of product so we sat there eating bagels and singing our songs before walking back to WHL, singing and dancing all the way. Happy days.

Saw this thread and it urged me to dig out some memorabilia from my late Grandad's collection. It is a bit before my time, but I am sure others in here will appreciate it :)

Thanks for adding that - loved that little sub headline saying the lads were on £50 a man bonus !

Compare that to the present day Man U allegedly paying goal scoring bonuses of £75k to Sanchez and £50k to Pogba plus hefty sums for assists.

Mental and obscene.

UEFA CUP FINAL 2nd leg WHL.
.
It was a bit of an anti-climax TBH. The draw gave us the win.
I was 16 still at school and too young for beer.
