My thoughts exactly. This is the new workings of the game and I am sure unscrupulous players and coaches will be playing on this twist to get soft PK's
Agreed, but it was much more of a penalty to me than the one given against Sissoko considering it hit his chest first before touching his arm, plus the ball that hit him was headed out of the penalty area to no-one in particular, unlike this pen where the ball struck the outstretched arm first and was headed towards goal.

Hang on - i was listening to the opening business on the radio, all the crowd cheering and whooping, applause and music. Went to make dinner, came back and i feel like I have to type quietly.

Who was making all that noise? Have they not mic'd up the crowd or what?

My problem with women's football is the keepers. The majority of the rest of it is fine. They aren't helped by having it play on normal sized goals despite the average height of women being much lower. Means you are having to just put people in goal who are taller rather than the most talented.

Yeah the standard of keepers is poor

Emma Hayes has recently mentioned that they should be made slightly smaller, but I don’t know how that suggestion was met from others

It seems every time I watch women's football the quality goes up exponentially.

men use to struggle with the size of the pitch over a century ago. They got fitter, and stronger, and the games miles ahead of what it was. I envisage the same for women. Give it 20 years and debates about goal sizes will be moot. The pace and passing will get faster. We're starting to see cracking goals from outside the penalty box.

Being of Jamaican heritage I watched the Brazil v Jamaica game earlier, another pen in that game given for handball where the ball literally just skimmed the Jamaica players elbow as it was crossed into the box. Never a pen for me and I believe we're going to see so much more penalties given if these are the new rules. Anyway it was a pretty good hatrick scored by Cristiane. I wanted to watch Marta but think she was injured.

I totally agree with the 20 year thing, maybe sooner hopefully

Can we maybe go more than 8 posts in a row without someone possessed by the spirit of Sid James having to let everyone know that they find women attractive? It's like sitting on a bus behind a load of horny 14 year boys.

Whats been great about the games so far is nobody is just lugging it upfield for someone to hold up, they don't play with their back to goal which means the games are fairly open and entertaining. I dread the day when the female Andy Carrol (Carol Andy?) is discovered and Big Sam makes his foray back into international football, that'll be the end of it all.

Only downside to the game so far is Jonathan Pearce. I live for the day he fucks off and I never have to hear him commentate on football again.

Agreed.

When you look back on it 20 years ago there were really what.....4-5 teams that had anything resembling the ability to play a form of quality football?.....the US (helped by years of Title IX funding), Brazil (seemingly almost on cultural identity), China (riding the Chinese investment in sport prior to the Beijing Olympics?) and then a couple of the Nordic countries?

But now you are seeing more and more countries fund and support the sport and the quality is clearly getting better overall and the distance between the "elite" teams and the rest seems to be getting smaller.

Still a fair distance between from the men's game to the women's but very clear that the women's game is improving rapidly.
