Herc's comment on 'waiting until the name is out there' makes me think it's not Aarons but someone we've not been linked with yet.

The last post i saw was that he hadn't been given a name yet. Has he posted something else?

No - same post. Name not given/not out. Given previous links to Aarons makes me think not him unless just a case that Herc hasn't been told any name, just an exciting u21

I've seen us linked with Rakeem Harper of West Brom. He could be that young talent Hercules referred too.

If you've watched him quite a bit, have you seen a bit of Ben Godfrey, too? Do you think he is spurs calibre?

Yeah I think he has what it takes too. Needs someone experienced alongside him to learn from but looks a future England player for me

I’d say with Clarke going out on loan the youngster will be right sided whether a wide forward or marauding full back. Aarons is a strong candidate

Will be clearer if we get any confirmation if it's an English player or not.

Looks very talented. Technique, pace, power and very good passer of the ball. And he's out of contract, so would cost very little in compensation. Here's a pretty comprehensive scouting report on him:

https://totalfootballanalysis.com/p...harper-west-brom-tactical-analysis-statistics

In the above article they also talk about Harper's defensive prowess and outstanding dribbling stats (83.3% success rate) and compare him to....Mousa Dembele:

.
Gliding past opponents
With an incredible 83.3% dribble success ratio, England has a player in a similar mold to Moussa Dembele. Raw power, passing, and strong dribbling abilities are such a rare set of ingredients. These three components to Rekeem’s game will make him a very pricey asset once he reaches his prime. Players such as Dembele, Tanguy Ndombele and Geoffrey Kondogbia offer similar characteristics, and Harper definitely fits into this category.

dribble-1-2.png
Rekeem Harper moving the ball quickly and dribbling past two players, moving the ball into a good area for a dangerous cross.
As we can see above, Harper has beaten one man and is about to beat another. His use of his 6″2′ frame to shield the ball whilst beating players is fantastic. His dribbling success ratio really echoes this. If trained correctly, he could be an incredibly strong player in the art of bringing the ball out of the defense. Whilst his dribbling is excellent, he could become even more effective if he continues to receive good coaching.

.
Breaking up play
I’ve described Harper as a box-to-box player, but have so far only listed his attacking excellence. In this paragraph I’ll emphasize his sheer defensive prowess, and why he is a superb box-to-box prospect. One of his strengths defensively is the ability to intercept passes in dangerous areas. Let’s have a look below.

interception-1.png
The young lad intercepting a key ball against Premier League opponents, a big test of his character.
With 3.15 interceptions per-game, he is very able to cut up opposition attacks and quickly counter-attack with his superb dribbling or passing. The image above shows his defensive intelligence. He steps in at the right time with West Brom overloaded centrally: good sense to have for such a young player.

In the transition into from defence into attack, Harper is absolutely fantastic as he has the combination of the ability to read the game, dribble past multiple players and knock the ball on to use his pace.

1-3.png
Harper winning the ball and then launching a counter-attack with his quick acceleration, physical strength and excellent dribbling.
2-4.png

Above is Harper dismantling an attack on his own goal, and then quickly beating the press with his quick feet to launch a counter-attack. This is something that made Moussa Dembele so individually excellent at Spurs, and why he was so highly rated.

Harper is showing the signs that indicate that he will be a similarly rare player. It isn’t hard to imagine a top Premier League club putting in a massive bid for him in two to three years’ time, as he possesses such unique and powerful ingredients that will make him an incredible midfielder.

After reading Hercs post, unfortunately I have to disagree. He talks about "finalising things with his club". But Harper's on a free. Pity.

Thanks for that comprehensive scouting report... Yeah you probably right. I did think of the contract ending but also considered the drawn out process of going to a tribunal to work out a compensation. So was clinging to the hope we were going the route of negotiating on good faith with his club VS knicking him on the cheap.

Edit. Now I really hope we interested after giving the report a second read. First saw a article on us linked in early April I think.

When signing young players like this it's often best to try and settle outside of tribunal, so could still apply.

We'd likely still negotiate with the club, as there would be an unknown compensation fee and add ons, and I don't think Levy likes to operate on unknowns. Not if it can be avoided.

When Danny Ings was out of contract at Burnley, we made a bid to the club.

Liverpool ended up taking him without knowing the fee for 9 months, which ended up being £8m, I believe in one payment, and 20% profit sell on clause.

That was 2015 money, though on the other hand Ings was an established PL player, so hard to gauge the compensation fee for Harper.

But you'd have to expect Levy will want to have it fixed, budgeted for, and control the payment terms and clauses.

Wasn’t there a very young turkish player we were linked to as well?”

Ben Godfrey has just signed a new longterm contract at Norwich.

Edit; Not sure why I get a 'dislike' for stating a fact, but there you go.

With all the guesses going on in regard to the 'mystery' player yet to be named, could be a contender to perhaps the first/only cryptic of this transfer window.

Would love it to be Aarons, though.

I dont understand why WBA didn't play him more if he's meant to be so good.
