The Skipp question is a valid one to raise. Could well just block his development. I could only see this if Wanyama leaves and Dier moves back to centre half to replace Toby or leaves.
I have been underwhelmed by Skipp to be honest. While I was rooting for him coming out of the academy, he seemed so out of his depth in key games, unlike Winks at the same stage where you could see the potential and class. Skipp reminds me of a young Mark Noble in appearance and the way he plays

Winks is 23 and made his debut at 20.
Skipp made his debut at 17 last season. Bit harsh to compare the two considering those few years from 17-20 are probably huge in football development terms

You seemed to have missed the part where I said "unlike Winks at the same stage where you could see the potential and class"

And you seem to have wildly missed the point despite being a smarmy ****.
You can’t compare them because Winks was never playing in the first team at Skipps’ age. Hence my post saying Winks made his first team debut at 20, 3 years later than Skipp has made his.

If in 2 seasons time, Skipp still doesn’t look good then fair enough. But the first time you would have seen Winks was at 20/21 years old. Skipp still has a couple of years to go before he even reaches the age Winks made his debut

I was referring to them at the same age as I had been observing Winks at Skipp's age, so its not at 20/21 that I first saw him play as you put it.

You were correct though it would be unfair to compare them as Skipp was making his debut at that stage. But my point still remains, you could always see the class and potential in Winks as a 17 year old playing with the academy with Onomah and the likes, when it was not apparent in Skipp playing in the same academy. Onions, swarmy **** and all

He scored loads of goals for Sunderland back in the day but he’s been around a bit of a long time now.

I’d actually say Skipp showed more potential at this age than Winks did.

Winks was somewhat of a late bloomer - even in the academy. Winks wasn’t really a player that was being raved about or heavily discussed amongst the youth watchers when he was 17/18.

Pretty sure this all started with Stan Collymore saying we should go for him, or Danny mills. I forget.

Either way this seems nonsense.

It really is cheeky when someone recycles the same joke from four or five posts ago. :D

Not sure about the "more potential" part, "more ready" however. Winks body was Tom Carrollesque, and would probably not be ready for Premier League football at 17. Skipp is more of a warrior, already look bigger and more mature in the pre season pictures compared to previous season.
Dele Alli have made comments about how Harry Winks was the player they all were in awe of when they met at youth level, how Winks totally ran the show. So, I don't think it was his quality that suddenly improved. Was more a matter of being ready for senior football, or even handling being up against the bigger kids.

I genuinely almost never read about Winks from the more regular youth watchers on this forum. There was obviously some praise (almost all of them get it in the youth thread) but the hype was definitely focused elsewhere - not on Winks. The major hype only really started when word started leaking out that Poch kept having him in first team training.

We should mention this to West Ham and then just sit back and wait for the £200M bid.

There is obviously movement on Kalvin Phillips as this thread has been bumped. Where?
