A place to gloat when VAR works for us, moan like fuck when it doesn't and all the different interpretations in between :cautious:

I'm surprised nobody thought of it (maybe they did and I can't find the thread) but there's obviously a need for a thread for Spurs related VAR seeing as several others were being filled with it, so here you go. Hopefully it'll save other, unrelated threads from drowning in it.

There's also a thread in General Football for VAR in general :D

I don’t mind it, I know there are lots of conspiracy suggestions going around at the moment.

VAR is managed in the same central area (secret location) by the same group of people for all games made up of ex pro’s, ref’s etc - I like VAR as it really does cut out many of the bullahit results (mendes goal for example).

Also stop the big team advantage.

Saturdays issue was around this accidental handball. As a football fan i absolutely hate it, but on the other hand - there is no discussion as if it hits your arm, it’s either a free kick or pen - no discussion really

Like it but doubt I'll have the same energy for it when we're on the receiving end, we know how this game goes.

Don't really understand how you can complain when you're on the end of a correct decision. If your players foot is offside (or eyes in Ozil's case), he's offside - no debate. I'd like to see it used (probably retrospectively) for diving. Hate the cheats.

VAR MY LORD

Honestly when it doesn't go for us (as long as it is correct), I will begrudgingly accept it. It will be given for and against you. The point is it takes the controversy out of it. Technology would have given Mendes' goal, Vertonghen when he was onside v Swansea (I think it was, the halfway line one?). You can't complain like Gabriel Jesus, Gundogan and the Cameroon women's team when it blatantly is correct. The laws on handball changed, as well as when an offside flag will go up. People just don't like change, but in the long term I think it will do more good. The only issue for me is the time it takes to make some decisions, but that will (or should) come with practice and regular use, which of course we haven't had in this country until now. They'll all be pro VAR when a last minute decision goes their way in a big game. Fickle idiots.

It’s only the “ultra” big clubs moaning about it cos they know Refs erred on their side the majority of the time. Anything that levels up the decisions at Old Trafford and Anfield is long overdue

I believe once all teams have had decisions go their way, we will see a softening of the fan's anti-VAR rhetoric.
Right now some teams have had decisions go their way and it "feels" unfair, even though obviously, per the rules, it isn't unfair. But perception and feeling is a massive part of this sport and the controversy of unfairness is being replaced with the controversy of rules!

With everything, it will quieten down and balance itself out, but it was always going to be a big big topic early in the season.

It's going to bite us on the ass at some point, it has to and when it does, it will most likely be utterly valid, we will hate it, but frankly if we are reliant on a single VAR decision deciding ourfate in a game, then we haven't done enough in the other 89 minutes.

I’d much rather have victory snatched from us by VAR in the manner it was snatched from City on the weekend, than suffer defeat because of a dodgy refereeing decision, like for example the Balotelli stamp at the Etihad, or the Pedro Mendes non goal at OT.

We take the rough with the smooth, but at least this way, the refs should get the majority of calls correct.

When Wanyama gets we should give VAR the number 12 shirt in honour of it as it’s been our 12th man. ??

Does anybody know why Lamela executing a flawless Rock Bottom on Rodri wasn't flagged? Tbf, I think Rodri might have initiated contact, but idk

I’d imagine if he hadn’t gone down easier than a ten bob whore, Rodri may have got more sympathy from the officials. Welsh prick.

That’s not the handball rule mate. It’s only an offence if the attacking player handballs it, even accidentally. If the defending player accidentally handballs it, play continues.

I read somewhere, that "I'd prefer momentary spoiled celebrations, for something that is irrefutable, than week long controversy over a terrible refereeing decision".

I'm finding it hard not to share that sentiment. Aye, it'll be a bastard when it happens to us (as it already has), but you can't really contend something that's demonstrable.

My issue with the whole concept of video evidence in Football stems from it being purely television driven. It's not done for the benefit of people actually attending the matches, its certainly not ever going to be implemented further down the leagues, where one bad decision can lead to a club surviving or going into administration.

I dont understand peoples problems with the rule change it makes perfect sense to me and its exactly how it should be.
Any advantage leading to a goal by use of the hand deliberately or accidentally should be disallowed.

Ashley Cole cross for Chelsea's winner against us back in the day comes to mind he didn't mean to handle but it hit his hand which moves the ball in front of him enabling him to hit a cross straight in resulting in a goal
Today that goal would rightly be disallowed.
I remember everyone being so incensed by it me included.
Henry's goal for France and many many more.

If you gain advantage for use of the hand it should be penalized and free kick given none of this subjective he didn't really mean it shit :cautious:

Neville and spitty were going on about this last night...apparently its down to the high threshold thats been set to overrule referees.
Doesn't really make a lot of sense, they showed that during the incident Oliver wasn't even looking at it as he was watching the bigger pack of players, but surely thats exactly when it should be used.
Its not overruling him if he completely missed it, id be pissed if we were on the other end of that one.

Danny rose says hi

The Prem have a different interpretation of handball to UEFA and FIFA so in Europe that will count as handball, doesn't help when there's different laws for Seperate bodies, bit ridiculous if you ask me.

I like it because it's benefitted us in 2 major calls.

I guarantee most of our fans would be dead against it and shouting '"conspiracy!" If the shoe had been on the other foot.
