Messi was given a sympathetic despensation to play. Its not permitted in professional sport. Not my opinion. The factor is of they have ever taken it. Not recent. Again not my opinion of what is right or wrong.
I don't believe this to be true. I can find no evidence of it. But if he were to still be using it for medical need he would get a therapeutic dispensation to use it. Like Paul Scholes had for asthma inhalers.

This is also completely normal in every sport I know.

TUE's are allowable in all sports with the reasoning being that they get the athlete back to roughly similar status that athletes without their condition have.
Remember the Russian Bears hacking team, they showed over 200 examples of this, all perfectly legal.

Bobby Lucky, sorry you are talking out your rear here

This is correct. Rightly or wrongly TUEs are very common (lots of top athletes with asthma and other horrible ailments ;)) and are signed off by doctors and officials of the sporting body. Essentially this is where a type of medication or an ingredient within a medication is banned but is ultimately needed for the athlete's health. Messi and steroids or HGH as a youngster is no exception.

Usually there's limits to what can be taken (see Froome and salbutamol for asthma) to ensure the medication isn't being abused.

when I first saw Marcus I was gobsmacked how good he was even back then!
such a shame.

I think a lot of us feel the same.

Definitely has talent but seems to lack some application/focus. Tough one to overcome from a training perspective too - i'm sure he's been given many opportunities to try.

For me, perhaps the loan route (whilst very mixed in it's successes) was the best option for his development. He seemed to have a chip on his shoulder regarding play time - but was definitely not up to the standard of our first team (IMHO). So a loan and regular competitive football would have potentially provided him with the motivation needed to play and some perspective on what's needed to make it.

Talent is only a small part of the equation, i don't know if he's ever truly got that?

Jack Pitt-Brooke just said this about Edwards in a Q&A on The Athletic:

It's been a frustrating window for Edwards. He went on trial at Brentford but then he got a hamstring injury and had to go back to Spurs for rehab. Brentford nearly signed him but it didn't happen. Then there was more Championship interest at the end of the window but that didn't happen either. And now his options are Germany or Holland on a permanent move. They're trying to do it but I don't think it's close, yet...

I still blame Sherwood. He hyped the lad up when he was 16-17 and every fan shot straight online to find out as much as they could about the lad. The spotlight was on him from then on, when really it would've been better if we'd not know anything about him until he made his playing debut. Poch's praise was OTT, but Edwards made a great cameo that night.
Barcelona were linked with him at 15, nothing to do with Sherwood, he represented England u16 at 14, he was on every radar going

Germany would be an interesting move in my view. Seems a growing trend amongst young brits to go there and a degree of faith in youth for a lot of managers. Seems to me that type of move away would be the best shot of turning things around for him.

Whatever happens i wish him good luck. Shame he couldn't push on with us.

Germany would definitely be a better league to join and you know German teams will be looking for the next Sancho. Shame to see him leaving but I think that Norwich loan was the last nail in the coffin.

“He has authority and behavioural problems, and we have to look at the bigger picture to find out the root cause. There was a time when it would have been seen as impossible for him to play professionally, let alone make it in the Premier League." - Mauricio Pochettino in his book.

Not to say he hasn't changed or anything... but just as a counter to everyone getting on a posters back a few pages back about saying there wasnt evidence of his supposed poor attitude.

Unfortunately he's been labelled, the thing is, people can change. A permanent move like Sancho ( the obvious extreme example) could be the makings.... Left footed winger is an interesting cv

Not sure about that. In the football world yes, fans only knew about him once Sherwood mentioned him, then everyone started talking about him. I'm confident there will be no mention of him.on this forum prior to that. Definitely got eyes on him early doors and high expectations
