I started thinking about something last night:

What are Kane's (the 2019 version) strengths?

(Normally) Lethal finishing and some fine passing every now and then is what I came up with. What else is he really good at?

And this isn't a "Harry Kane is shit" post, just wondering what people feel are his qualities. I just feel the list can be made longer for players such as Suarez, Lewandowski or Aguero.

Harry had a shit game because our midfield was garbage.
He came back looking for the ball.
Winks doesn't get the ball forward enough.
Ndombele drives forward and creates space.

I agree with a lot of the posts on here. He does look less effective than in his peak seasons and he doesn't run as much. What I will say is that I don't believe for a second that he's become lazy. He's a bit of a victim of his own success these days. Teams are dropping deep and denying us the space to run into. Poch needs to work out how to get the best out of him in those circumstances. To be fair signing Ndombele and Lo Celso is obviously part of the plan so we'll have to wait and see how that works out. Kane's also always been the guy that buys into the managers plans so if he's not running and pressing as much I assume that he's following instructions. He's still a supremely gifted player though and I don't think anyone can question his commitment to the club, but we definitely need to get him more involved.

Kane needs other players to run into spaces, interchange etc. We miss Dele badly as his ability to make probing runs off the ball assists the options for Eriksen, Son and Kane to interchange.

I'm interested to see how Dele coming back affects Kane, I've tried to get onboard with Dele dropping deeper but for the life of me I will never understand why we moved away from what was the most lethal partnership in europe. Even before Dele dropped deeper because of injuries he still wasn't used the same way as his peak season.

Peak Kane

Dier Dembele
Alli Eriksen
Kane

or

Wanyama Dembele
Alli Eriksen Son
Kane

Poch needs to start thinking about how he can get the best out of Kane, not how to fit Lucas or Son in. Replicate what we had before.

Agree massively with this and until Alli is back and firing I would go with:

Dier Ndombele
Lo Celso Eriksen Son
Kane

And then once Alli is back I would change it to:

Dier Ndombele
Alli Lo Celso Son
Kane

We all know that Eriksen wants to leave so let’s get as much use out of him as poss!

Agree with this, but he needs to get involved in the right areas.

Far too often yesterday he was dropping deep to try and make things happen, he needs to play more in and around the box, where he can really cause problems for defenders.

I honestly think that one, or both of his ankles are shot and it's probably worse than he or the club are willing to let on. The guy can't jump and has barely broken into a sprint since the latest injury.

When a side lacks creativity it's the forwards who suffer most. I don't think Kane is that different to his previous self just not getting the ball in dangerous places and heavily marked. What I would like to see more is him as an aerial threat. Doest seem to bully defenders as he used to so they find him much easier to mark.

Agree that his press and high work rate have diminished, but you reap what you sow. We’ve run him into the bloody ground for several years now, combined with becoming England captain. Added to the yearly ankle ligament injury that he always returns too quickly from and you get what we’ve got now.

I don’t believe for a second that Kane has lost his hunger, so it’s either him having to slow down to preserve his career and total burn out or us becoming less creative and more predictable in midfield so he has to search for the ball. Or a strange tactical switch by Poch.

I know it just sounds like I’m giving him a free pass, but I truly think this has been coming and it’s mostly our doing.

We can all see the obvious, physical drop off with our own eyes, despite the fact that as a great player, he’s adapted to improve other parts of his game.

Needs much more PL rest and rotation imo to be effective when he does play. We all know prime Harry Kane is undroppable and untouchable. A lesser version still has the ability score great goals, but we also know that when he’s been out, we can also get goals from other sources without him as the focal point.

Having Ndombele, Lo Celso, and maybe Eriksen all available will open up and improve both options re playing with and without Kane.

Kane gets double marked now the defenders are literally hsnging off is back in games. I do believe refs are harsh on him for some reason. Every player in that team need to step up.

Sadly, the double marking isn't happening like it used to, because he ain't moving like he used to when he was dragging defenders all over the issue. They didn't know whether to stay close or drop off, because he could turn and move in a flash, or create a foot of space to get off a crazy, powerful shot from any angle, or pass to another attacker in wide open space just because he dragged 3 defenders out of position. Defender's nightmare! And they had to deal with that all game!

We just need to be realistic about the Kane we have now, and how that works for the team.

I think this thread is getting very carried away. I feel like he's come back leaner this year and his two goals against Villa were lethal.

He may have lost a bit of explosive physicality but he's always been a slow starter (see old august curse), he needs a good run of games to really hit form. If he can avoid injuries he'll bag 20+ easily, I'm sure of it.

He is going to go through quiet spells when we play these bus parkers but he will still be in the golden boot race I'm sure. We had a glimpse of what can come with the penalty shout vs Newcastle. Lovely little through ball from Lo Celso giving Kane the kind of goalscoring opportunity he'll thrive on (if not rugby tackled first!).

We need to be finding ways of maximising his chances, not thinking of leaving him out!

Did Harry have one decent pass or cross he could use yesterday ? Poor sod was left all on his own until Eriksen moved up alongside him late in the second half.

We need to get him back as the focal point with Dele as close to him as possible. When that happens, watch the goals flow again.

So many people underestimate Dele's clever movement as well.

That opens up space as he drags defenders out of position.

I agree. He’s so under rated by our fan base. Sure he has had some quiet games recently but he hasn’t been played in his best position at all in that time.

We just need to go back to Kane with Dele off him, son and eriksen floating about and have a strong central midfield. Easy.
