Another thing, as a player, if you were put through on goal and the linesman flagged & whistle blows then do you stop? Personally I wouldn't, I would run through, put the ball in the back of the net & then ask the question as to whether I was actually offside. It's just causing so much confusion.

And it finally happened. The ref has blown his whistle, two players slow down and De Gea didn’t really make an attempt to save it however the goal wasn’t given! VAR is garbage.

That's nothing to do with VAR though. It's a referee/linesman mistake.

The ref didn't actually blow up before the ball had crossed the line, so the VAR is right to give the goal. The players stopped because of the flag, not a whistle.

I'm confused now. Are we talking about the Arsenal goal which was given? I didn't think the ref blew until it went in and the linesman only flagged after the shot was taken didn't he? Even if the linesman does flag the players have to play to the whistle.

I must admit I confused myself reading it back, but yes I was talking about the goal that was given, which was a correct decision.

I agree but then do you risk picking up a booking for doing that? Especially if you’ve already been booked.

Massive can of worms.

If the whistle is blown before you put the ball in the net then VAR can do absolutely nothing, even if there was nothing wrong in the build up

FFT need to hire better "journalists".

" Why, for instance, was it imperative to stop and restart the game when Lukasz Fabianski strayed marginally north of his goal-line before saving that penalty on the season's opening day"

Erm... because it was for Declan Rice's encroachment into the penalty area.

"More critical, though, is this current sense that VAR is illogical - that it is the most tedious of enemies: all powerful when it doesn't need to be, impotent when it does."

This line sums it up for me.

Yeah that's a pretty awful mistake by the writer. Rice encroaches and is the man who gets to the ball first to clear it, it was always going to be retaken.

Yup.

I see VAR did it’s usual load of tosh again yesterday. Firstly, Watford should have had a penalty, how that wasn’t given is beyond me and I’d feel cheated if I were a Watford fan!

Then the whole “goal” / “no goal” fiasco just goes to show how bad it’s got.

What I don’t understand is how they are not overturning penalty decisions that should be given, yet are overturning offsides that are totally subjective due to the technology that is being used. The whole system is rubbish and is causing more headaches than just accepting the on field decision.

Why would they overturn subjective offsides when they've all been correctly awarded?

I don't think offsides are subjective, you either are or you are not offside. Wether by milimetres or metres. What is the issue with the VAR Offsides is that the technology isn't accurate enough to really call those millimetre offsides; this is when common sense should prevail.

.....because the technology isn't good enough to call an offside that is within ~15cm either way. Therefore the reviewer must guess the movement between frames, which is impossible unless acceleration is at a constant rate (which obviously it isn't or it wouldn't be called acceleration).
You also have to consider that it is impossible to tell from a video when the ball has actually left the foot.

Completely agree and that’s what I said. It is subjective when you haven’t got the technology to accurately review. As per my original post.

Sorry I don’t understand what you mean? Our goal that was disallowed against Leicester was a subjective review due to the fact that the technology isn’t in place to make an exact decision. Then it should stay with the on field decision if it’s not exact.

Dale Johnson from ESPN has just started this thread on VAR in the Premier League.

Echoes the issues fans across the country have been frustrated with.

It probably doesn't help that we have been utter crap this season but...

Is anyone else not bothered with the premier league this year? Like before I would enjoy sundays sitting down and watching a game or two, even the early Saturday kick off if I was around I would turn on. But I literally have no interest anymore, I feel like the atmosphere at games is slowly dying and just the general enjoyment of the game has been sucked out completely. Even the couple games I have been to this season just didn't feel the same.
