Lets not mistake composure for being good on the ball.

whenever he tries to carry the ball he looks at risk of overrunning it.

Then add in the fact that in CDM you have to play with your head on a 360 degree swivel it adds another element of danger.

Dier is (supposedly) composed on the ball too, doesn't stop him getting robbed of possession or turning into trouble. and that's someone that has played the position for a while.

With a lot of teams employing a press now, I'm not sure it's a risk worth taking.
Yep, it’s like when everyone tried to say Trippier should play in midfield last year. It’s a whole different game in there compared to the back.

How many CB's have been converted to Defensive midfielders in recent history?

The only criticism of Foyth here is that you feel he looks like overrunning the ball.

He very rarely loses it though and is confortable receiving and carrying the ball under pressure. He came through as a CAM as a kid.

Agree to disagree I guess.

Who said that :LOL::LOL::LOL:

I think it's a bastardisation of the view that Tripper should have been converted to one, based on the fact he can shoot (going by his FKs) and cross, and his strengths certainly didn't seem to have been anything defensive.

Not massively different to the inversed Sissoko-at-right-back argument.

I don't think he is a bad player (far from it)

There are lapses in his game like men running off him or coming on his blindside, as there are most youngsters and his touch is hit and miss (as are too many of our players IMO)
But with the right partner and guidance I'm sure he could grow into a very composed ;) CB that can bring the ball out. Just has to pick his moments better (ie not when three attackers are nearby...)

I just feel CDM is perhaps not right for him ATM and maybe never will be.

Jury's still out on him as a RB.

I'd rather watch Foyth make mistakes every week at the age of 21 than watch Aurier do the same at 27.

At least Foyth can learn from it.

Actually thought Danny had one of his better games. Thought the team ticked TBH
Not trying to rain on anyone's parade and the assist was good but Rose was pretty poor I thought, particularly first half. Second half they tired and wilted but we need a new LB - hope Davies plays the next game.

This guy has all the tools to be a good player. Has such a silky touch for a defender.

Exactly this. He could, if he learns from his odd silly mistake, be our Azpilicueta type full back. Great technical ability, solid defensively. You don't have to be rapidly quick to be a good full back, not that Juan is slow in any case.

I'd much rather Foyth was our first choice right back over Aurier. Aurier always seems to be in the middle of all things wrong, even when it's not his fault. Foyth is prone to the odd brainfart, but that is true of all brave footballing defenders, especially at young ages.

He’s a footballer. Love seeing players that can play as well as defend. He doesn’t treat the ball like a hot potato, which is an automatic tick for me.

He’s the sort of attitude we need in the first team.
