Irrespective as to what Poch says or does, only 1 man can influence this:

Christian Eriksen's game by numbers vs. Everton:

0 take-ons attempted
0 chances created
0 shots attempted
0 interceptions
0 tackles made
1 yellow card
16 x possession lost

However, Poch CAN of course influence whether that player should be anywhere near the pitch...

Question also has to be asked how Poch can get so little out of a world class midfielder.

Its fucking infuriating, so much so I'm seriously thinking about following another sport for the next 8 months.

Who's the Man City of curling?

Every team or individual I support in any other country or in any other sport - ARE SHITE.

Dont do it to yourself - it all compounds itself into a depressing mess

Excellent post.

To pick up on your “nearly men” observation of both the club and Poch, this is the thing that’s niggling at me.

I can totally understand why Poch is being cut some slack by both fans and the hierarchy, but what concerns me is that if we batten down the hatches to implement this rebuild, what makes us believe that Poch MII will take the leap from nearly men to winners?

I’ve been very critical of ENIC in the transfer market and while I stand by it, there’s no doubt in my mind that our squad has been good enough to win something in the last few years, but have failed to do so.

We don’t really seem to have learned as a team over that period or acquired the street smarts necessary to become winners, and that’s largely down to the manager imo.

I also have my doubts the mark II rebuild will be any better personnel wise, with the potential for Kane to get restless also.

As you say, time to shed our “nearly men” status and be the club we’re purported to be. You can have as many top class facilities as you like, but success is ultimately measured by performance on the pitch.

I think that's exactly the problem too. 5 years is a long time in management. It's hardly been a season or two to win something.

We could give him time to turn it around or get back to form, to what? More glorious 4th positions or glorious final losses? Getting into a final feels good. Poch has brought that back and I loved him for it. Getting in the CL feels good, he also brought us that and I loved him for it, but I imagine winning these things must feel even better.

FA Cup:

2014/15 Arsenal (runners up Villa)
2015/16 Man Utd. (Palace)
2016/17 Arsenal (Chelsea)
2017/18 Chelsea (Utd.)
2018/19 Man City (Watford)

EFL Cups

2014/15 Chelsea (runners up Spurs)
2015/16 Man City (Liverpool)
2016/17 Man Utd. (Southampton)
2017/18 Man City (Arsenal)
2018/19 Man City (Chelsea)

League

2014/15 Chelsea (City runners up)
2015/16 Leicester (Arsenal)
2016/17 Chelsea (Spurs)
2017/18 City (Utd.)
2018/19 City (Liverpool)

CL (British clubs)
2017/18 Madrid (Liverpool)
2018/19 Liverpool (Spurs)

Leicester - 1 win.
Liverpool - 1 win / 3 x 2nds.
Utd. since Fergie, - 1 x win and 1 x 2nd.
City - 5 wins and 1 x 2nd.
Chelsea - 3 wins and 1 x 2nd.
Arsenal - 0 wins and 2 x 2nds.
Us - 3 x 2nds.
Villa, Watford, Saints, Palace - 1 x 2nd.

In those five years with Poch at the helm, Utd. have been in disarray, as have Arsenal and Chelsea for most of it, all with multiple managers that have been and gone but we still didn't do as well as any of them, barring Arsenal who we got 1 more 2nd. Our team was also having it's praises sung upon high whilst the others were considered pretty tragic, so what went wrong? For me, unfortunately it was the manager. A great guy, who I love to pieces, but just doesn't quite cut it.

I think the media silence on questioning Poch is quite remarkable. It’s kinda like they want him to keep his job to put us back in our place.. Strange how Neville etc are no longer calling for Poch to go to Man Utd, Madrid, Bayern etc.. It’s a funny old game.

I think it’s more that they love him and now can’t believe he’s turned us to shit. Strange as they usually like to build people up to knock them down.

The cosy spurs crew are the worse. Gold's latest article is another piece that paints the picture of a boy fighting against this tough tough world, going through a hard time...poor soul. You'd think we had just had a unlucky blip but were sitting pretty in 5/6th. No away wins since January and its wishy washy.

Whatever side of the fence you sit on regarding Poch, its hard to disagree that he's getting a very easy time right now.

Club seems content to throw the entire season away. Disgusting.
This is the bit I don't understand. We all know how much Levy likes making money, but throwing away a entire season, and missing out on the CL would see us losing millions, not to mention set us back years. I just don't get his thinking on this. Plus the fact then, we won't have CL football to entice anyone decent to come, and anyone we do buy Poch won't play until about 2022, so none of this makes sense, whatever way you look at it.
I think we're at a bit of a crossroads (ffs, not again!) and there are a couple of possible directions the club can go - assuming they want to take a direction at all.

Option One: would be something like the Dortmund approach, be a club that focuses on developing young talent. A project team for a project manager. This is where it makes sense to stick with Poch perhaps. Though it would require some serious changes in our approach to young players (see the Spurs Youth thread). It would also likely mean saying goodbye to Kane, possibly Son too. Ultimately though, what is the point of always building but never finishing? The ultimate in sports edging. Why develop talent for other teams to take advantage of, other than for profit? Why build the new stadium? (#Levyball.)

Option Two: would be to try and take advantage of the 5 year project we've just had, with experienced players and one of the world's best strikers, to push for trophies. Requires a change of manager, and some more investment. Getting an experienced 'big name' manager in would help the recruitment, the brand and the image of the club. It likely leads to another project in a couple of seasons time, but at least we'd have had a go, daring to do. A new manager would have this season to get his feet under the desk with the chance to really push for glory for a season or two after that. At the end of that we'd have some very saleable assets with which to fund the following rebuild. (#Levyballparttwo)

Both options require significant changes and more investment. I'd much prefer the second, but I could handle the first if it was made clear that that is what we're trying to do. I know the hierachy are allergic to communicating with fans, and I understand the reasons in terms of putting our cards so publicly on the table, but the complete failure to treat fans as anything other than consumers to be milked for all eternity is a big mistake in my opinion - especially when the 'product' on the pitch is so underwhelming.

It's the continued insistence on fannying about not doing one thing or the other that has become so wearing. To repeat the words of a recent home fan: "Do something Tottenham!".

Or as the great Yogi Berra said: "When you come to a fork in the road, take it!"
As a side note, great to see all of you back again guys!

Wish it was under better circumstances!

Ffs, I'd forgotten about that fucking documentary. Were they filming last night? If they were we're guaranteed to see Sonny in bits in the changing rooms after the red card. :(

To be honest, I’m bored with it all now.

The debates on here whether you are pro Poch or anti Poch are the same. It’s the same thing being discussed day after day after day.

I have written off the season now, mentally.
I honestly believe the Levy won’t pull the trigger for quite some time. Poch is the most popular manager (and most successful?? I use that word very loosely) since Martin Jol, and the back lash he recieved back then for sacking him is probably still strong in his mind.

the trouble is, whoever is our manager come January or even June they will need to rebuild this squad. it's now getting older and slower in CD. if a new manager came in and Toby and Jan signed new deals they aren't going to be any quicker, or all of a sudden jump a foot higher. we still need a RB or 2, we still need a DCM or 2, we most probably will need a Kane back up, and possibly a replacement for Son or Moura. will we change our system or will we need a replacement for Eriksen or even 2 in that position.

the trouble with the previous 5 seasons has been the stadium has held us back properly freshening up as we went along. had the stadium been in place 5 years earlier then perhaps Poch would have had the backing needed to keep this squad properly freshened up each summer.

to be honest with this squad now, I don't think any manager could turn us into real competition v Man C and Liverpool without spending a fortune.
