Surely everyone can agree on what a good goalie should be, regardless of tactics? Yes it's awesome to find a keeper like Ederson who could do a job in midfield, but they're rare. You're hardly ever going to find a manager who will put footballing ability over keeping the ball out of the net adequately.Sure I know that. I'm talking purely about tactics that play him to his strengths.
Crazy that his best days for us came when we were shit. I'd like to thank him for his service, but it's time to move on and the injury gives us the best opportunity to do so.
This.lol, you guys should just stop with this premature posts about the end of Hugo's career. None of us knows how this will pan out, he may very well end up retiring, or he may try to make a come back. If it's the later, every Spurs fan should give him his full support.
No you misunderstood my post, whether or not Hugo can physically make a comeback I simple dont think he's good enough to stick with regardless. We need someone with stronger mental fortitude that the defense can trust.lol, you guys should just stop with this premature posts about the end of Hugo's career. Another one to add to the ever lengthening list. I'm looking forward to Levy showing definitively whether he really is in this for the trophies or for the balance sheet in the next 2-3 years.Time to upgrade
Too many people are far too sentimental about Hugo, ever since we became challengers he's almost shrunk within himself, to the detriment of us wining trophies. and while he'll always be able to make the unbelievable saves he consistently struggles in the biggest moments to correctly diagnose the danger and make the saves that he should.
Compounding his distribution from the back especially in high profile games always has the potential to put us under unnecessary pressure because he doesnt read the game well enough.
It's a personal preference but I much prefer a steady goalkeeper than a spectacular. Just as long as that steady keeper has more mobility than the Brad "Cement boots" Friedel.
I completely disagree there. By the time he recovers from this injury, he'll be 33 years old. While he's still shown he can pull off some outstanding saves, his overall performance levels have decreased markedly over the past few years. Remember, he had a fair shout at being the best keeper in the world at one point. That decline will only continue. At the risk of mistaking you for another poster and sounding like an idiot...
... didn't last season taught you anything? You were saying the same kind of things about Hugo, and then had to back track and write him a post "apologizing" for saying such things after he proved to be monumental for us in our run to the CL final.
Is not sentimentalism, Lloris has arguably been our best player of this past decade (or at the very least fighting for that spot with Luka, Bale and Harry) and just last season he proved yet again how important he can be for us. So no, unless this most recent injury signifies a significant drop in his goalkeeping skills, then I don't agree we need to upgrade just yet.

you're absolutely correct that i acted like an idiot. I got swept up with the sensationalism of reaching the final. I should have maintained my view on Hugo, but I got romantic and sentimental myself about our club captain and a very loyal servant. At the risk of mistaking you for another poster and sounding like an idiot...

Senseless mistakes will continue to be a part of his game, seemingly on an increased basis too. The last thing we need when we're trying to make wholesale changes to our defense is a goalkeeper that they can't trust because you never know when he's going to do something stupid to undermine their hard work.
Adding to that, he is clearly ill equipped and uncomfortable playing with the ball at his feet in the manner that the manager wants from his goalkeeper. We always look at risk of conceding (or at least conceding possession in a dangerous area) when the ball is at his feet, and other teams have clearly picked up on this. So if we are going to persist with the manager for the foreseeable future, then we need a goalkeeper that will fit properly into his system.
You only have to look at Man City and Liverpool to see how much difference the right goalkeeper can make to the way the team plays. The right goalkeeper for us is no longer Lloris.
If we want to compete with Liverpool and City we're gonna need a more consistent keeper and a keeper who is able to play with his feet, time to upgrade.
