Just out of interest, how many of you would have sold him 18 months ago considering his form, his importance and our standing as a club at that time ...

Inter are a big club and that but I’d hardly say it’s a big step up or nothing. Inferior league with inferior players and inferior managers. That’s undeniable imo. As a club they’ve only just started getting back into the CL so kinda like where we were 4 or 5 years ago (though with a lot richer history in the CL in general tbf but do you think players really give a shit what clubs won before they were born)

Ok, so they’re splashing the cash and they’re certainly a club with a lot of prestige so I’m not saying they’re some tin pot outfit but going from Barca/Real to Inter is pretty funny imo.

Having said that if they’re going to put him on £400k pw to put through balls through to Lakaku to miss then all the best to him.

You, YOU would have sold for that much 18 months ago?
Can you even believe it?

Mainly it’s because of Christians history. I knew he always wanted a different place and not stay in London for the rest of his career. And 70-80m seems a good price for a player who is never gonna be a superstar because of his personality and characteristics. I watch him every day. He’s not an 100m player.

So yeah I would have sold him.

yeah, pure genius when we could have got 100 million for him 18 months ago.
There is absolutely nothing about the way the club have handled the Eriksen situation that could in the remotest way be classified as genius.

why would we have sold him 18 months ago?

There's a reason why anyone, let alone Inter, would pay around 20m for Eriksen.

First of all, let's see some of the players that had 6 month of their contracts. Let's see two cases:

Barkley. We were interested. We didn't want to sign him in the summer as he was injuried. He went for 15m to Chelsea in January 2018. After not playing because of his injury.

Sanchez. Despite it being public he wants to go and his drastic drop of form, Arsenal managed to get Mkhitarian (who didn't perform for then, but then looks like they will still get some money back as they're selling them to Roma now)

Now why Inter would be interested in paying 20m for him? Because of two reasons. First, it's pretty obvious that his head has been turned by Spanish clubs. Maybe they don't want to sign him for a fee right now if they know they could get him for free in summer (and he'd have time to adapt as well). In Inter's case, Eriksen might be interested to sign for them, but if we compare them to Real or Barcelona, he'd propably still pick one of the latter.

Then, 2nd one. Inter are 1st in Serie A, tied on points with Juve. After not winning anything past few years, they've got a decent chance now. But they need every bit of help to achieve that. 6 months of Eriksen might be just that edge for them.

Just bench him if he stays- based on his form over the last 12 months, it’s really not worth playing him if that stunts GLC’s integration, or impacts on Mourinho’s attempts to implement his ideas and strategies.
He’s entitled to see his contract out, but no way should we feel compelled to play him because he’s been one of our best players over the years, the last 12 months notwithstanding

Must be shit for morale having him wandering around the club. Could have left as a bit of a much missed 'legend' and brought in the fees we need to build our next chapter. Instead, this. So bloody frustrating.

And was selling him for £100m even an option? Which club's were prepared to pay that much for him? I wouldn't have been happy with him joining United.

When Coutinho sold to Barcelona for £100M+, Christian was worth every bit as much. Saying we should have sold Christian in his prime for 70-80m is nuts, we're not a charity

I see your point. 70-80m might be on the low side.
I think it’s just what I imagine in regards to a 100m player. Christian doesn’t have the X factor as I think such a player should have, but that might be a wrong assumption as well.

The market sure has gone mad huh.

Eriksen is essentially Tommy from Trainspotting. Started off as the best of the bunch but stayed when he should have left.

Now he is skulking in the background, most aren't noticing and have accepted he will be gone within the next six months.

Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys
