Does seem a strange buy imo. We have attacking midfielders out the arse. We cant play them all.
We badly need defensive players.
I wonder who is going to be leaving as I doubt we'll keep Kane, Alli, Son, Moura, Lamela, Fernandes, LoCelso, Winks, Ndomble, Sissoko and now Bergwijn.
I hope we're not turning into Arsenal, just keep going for attacking midfielders instead of the positions we need.
Think the point is that Lo Celso, Winks, Fernandes and Ndombele are CMs. Whereas Bergwijn is a wide forward so he will only be competing with Alli, Son, Lamela and Moura

Update 22:36 : Ernest Faber reacted on Sunday at Studio Voetbal to the news about whether or not Steven Bergwijn refused to play. "I spoke with Stevie. He was busy transferring to Tottenham Hotspur and wanted permission to go there. I was allowed to go there to build a new future, "says Faber." Logically, you go ahead and he is not part of the selection. He asked for my permission to go there. I said " Stevie , it's very simple. If you would rather go there than join us in the competition to build a future at another club, I will switch quickly ".

Kees Jansma then added that General Manager Toon Gerbrands subsequently prohibited Bergwijn from traveling to London. "Around 11:30 a.m., Gerbrands was also informed of the state of affairs. He assumed that an offer would also be made through Bergwijn's agent," he said. "That offer did not come. There was also no contact from Spurs with PSV. Gerbrands finally said that he is not going to London. He also told journalists tonight. There is no offer, there is no deal, there is no reason to go The management said that he was not allowed to leave because he was once a club employee, but he went anyway and wanted to be tested today. PSV then said that if there is no deal involved, why should it be inspected? PSV told Tottenham that it is no longer necessary for now. "

Ah, Hoops random ramblings are starting to make a little sense maybe? F**k it, I've got an early start, so I'm leaving. Gotta stamp on some old Dears cat and spit at a poor defenceless person. Now that's worth a proper disagree

You've just listed everyone who doesn't play in goal or defence - they aren't all attacking midfielders.

As far as they tend to be rated in their primary roles, we have:
- Forwards: Kane
- 10's: Alli/Lamela
- Forwards/Flying Wingers: Son/Moura
- Holding/CM: NDombele, Winks, Fernandes
- Utility/WhoKnows: Sissoko/GLC

Regardless of all the commotion: PSV will be selling Bergwijn this week to Tottenham Hotspur, if the formalities are in order. The club wants - understandably - to get the most out of it. More than 30 million must be achievable, it is expected. Quite a considerable amount.

This is their club mouthpiece from what I can see - so this is good.

That's clear as mud.

He receives the ball and has the skill (and maybe vision?) to make things happen certainly. But it is reactive and not central to the way the team plays, at the moment. Maybe that will change. Yesterday, the brilliant run wasn't planned - it happened. Someone gave him the ball and he saw the opportunity and reacted. I don't disagree he is a good player at all. I don't see he has a plan and therefore pulls the strings of the rest of the team in that way from a central position - he does that through his skill and opportunity.

In addition, if the rest of the team are playing such quick flicky, little passes to each other then it is not surprise that sometimes they don't work.

But at least you had the decency to reply as to why you disagreed!;)
I’m a tad confused by what you’re saying here. You seem to feel that each pass, move etc should be planned out prematurely and executed from this. You seem to forget that there’s another team on the pitch who’s setup, movement etc can be unpredictable.

We setup with a formation that is intended to maximise the skill sets of the players available, after that everything is reactive, you just need to setup in a manner that allows those reactions to work in a way that you can anticipate. This is where your creative players come in, as they are the ones you rely on to react quickest to any scenario that presents itself. This isn’t limited to just the creative passing players either, as the forwards are required to react to swift changes in situation, transition if you will, where they exploit swift change and create opportunities.

What I’m getting at is that, the vast majority of the time, creativity IS reactive, not premeditated. The secret is having players that recognise the opportunity before the opposition can curtail it, then have the ability to execute. But you need that in both the middle and final thirds, as all the vision and creativity in the World, in midfield, is wasted if you don’t have those in the final third also seeing it and providing the opportunities.

For me the 3 biggest priorities are:

DM - A strong, mobile player who reads the game well, protects the back 4 and provides balance to the midfield, winning it back and allowing Ndombele and Lo Celso to do their thing in possession.

WF - A quick, agile wing forward who can play both sides and cause teams problems with dribbling and quick, skilled interplay.

Striker - I would personally prefer a flexible forward like Werner but it seems Mourinho wants a number 9.

After this, a right back and new CB.
Agree, especially on DM - I cannot fathom how poch and now Jose may pass over a transfer window without addressing what is a very obvious gaping hole in our team..

Get back to you tomorrow as I feel it requires a reasonable answer as opposed to some flippant remark
