As far as I've seen it, chronologically:

- PSV said we had made an offer
- PSV left him out of the squad
- Dutch media said he's refused to play and has absconded prematurely to London
- Player posted a video from a London Hotel saying he's done everything as expected and is a bit confused about the backlash
- PSV manager confirmed he said the player could go over to London to sign for us
- Some PSV bigwig has said that there's been no offer and no reason for Bergwijn to be here.

Seems like literally no one involved knows what's going on.

Events as they happened according to the last update at this article:
1 Steven Bergwijn rings his mananger, telling him he is headed to London to finalise his transfer. Faber - not privy to the negotiations - tells him that he only needs players who are willing to give their all to hel drag te club out of its present crisis. If Bergwijn can't do that, he will move on to the next player in his squad.
2 PSV's GM hears of Bergwijn's travel plans from Faber and is baffled. According to him, there is no deal and no new Spurs offer beyond the one that had been dismissed. He forbids Bergwijn to travel to London. A medical is pointless at this stage, accoding to the GM
3 Bergwijn travels to London anyway. PSV express their dismay. PSV have told Tottenham that a deal is off the menu for now.
4 Bergwijn posts a video denying all PSV claims.

A blazing row is now ongoing between the three parties. Whether cool heads will prevail or it'll all blow up for good is anyone's guess.

He receives the ball and has the skill (and maybe vision?) to make things happen certainly. But it is reactive and not central to the way the team plays, at the moment. Maybe that will change. Yesterday, the brilliant run wasn't planned - it happened. Someone gave him the ball and he saw the opportunity and reacted. I don't disagree he is a good player at all. I don't see he has a plan and therefore pulls the strings of the rest of the team in that way from a central position - he does that through his skill and opportunity.

In addition, if the rest of the team are playing such quick flicky, little passes to each other then it is not surprise that sometimes they don't work.

But at least you had the decency to reply as to why you disagreed!;)

You do realise the majority of football is reactionary. The fact he has the confidence and the vision to do that is a great asset. Most players beat an opponent based on what the defender os doing. The best players react off the movement of the defender. Modric used to have an idea of what he was going to do however would do it if the pitch had the same outlook when the ball got to him so reactionary. Lennon would make the darting run because he knows its likely modric will find him. Same as Alli will make the run and Toby will go long both are reacting to the other. Football involves alot of split second reactions. Messi doesnt get the ball and think might as well beat 5 men and put one top bins. As he has no idea in what way the defenders are going to move or what direction his run will take him. Put down the PS4 controller and switch off fifa on beginner mode

I refuse to believe that he's travelled to London to talk to us without having permission from PSV. He clearly had the backing of the manager but surely communication within their club isn't that bad?! It's obviously a tactic of saving face and I'm sure behind the scenes everything is far calmer than the media are portraying.

The thing I love about him is his creativity numbers. Double digit assists in back to back seasons and only trailing Ziyech and Tadic in the league in key passes. So important in the modern game to have creative wingers, especially if we’re transitioning to more of a 4-3-3 like Mourinho has traditionally played.

He is EXACTLY what we need in a RW and he's what Lucas should be.
Don't want to get too excited about this one but IF we can get this over the line and a striker i'll start to have a lot more faith in the club and the re-build.

COYS.

I do tend to agree but just remember that Vincent Janssen looked like Marco van Basten in his YouTube showreel from that league.

He’ll need to adapt well to the Prem and let’s not forget that Lucas has done some pretty awesome things in a Spurs shirt already. The competition may make him better too.

Everyone is twice as good before we sign them. I'm happy it looks like we are getting him, but let's let him settle and not expect him to be great right away. It's a hard league to adjust from.

Like many here with strong opinions based on very few facts, i became an expert by watching a few youtube videos on him. The one thing i did like was that he demonstrated superb vision and touch in those clips. There was quite a bit of space and the players off the ball made great runs, but he still made the pass (ahem sonny). Most of his clips that i saw were open play, but does look promising.
Should be good in the counter attacking setup Jose has us playing in recently. We’ve spurned so many great opportunities by picking the wrong pass or holding onto the ball for too long.

The rational way of thinking. But until he’s actually signed, I can reasonably entertain any number of possibilities that stops this happening. ( Say this to yourself in Samuel L Jackson’s voice and you get what I mean)

Agree, dont expect him to be great straight away but this kid is good...we were rumoured to be looking at him a while ago. Watched him at psv, he will be fine

Yes but Janseen had one good season and you or I could see it was unlikely he'd have what it takes so succeed as a top level striker in the prem just from a few youtube highlights, but more than that Janssen didn't have the physical speed and sharpness or the mental strength to succeed for us, Bergywin is a confident player who's been performing for the best team in Holland for a number of years and the same at international level, much much higher chance of him succeeding with us and he's just the type of player we need.

Janssen didn't look like van basten from youtube at all, he looked like he was slow and ponderous and not brilliant technically and was scoring goals against sunday league defences.

I really want this one to happen as this kid has serious potential, would be an extremely astute signing.

I mean that's great and all but let's keep in mind the league he is playing in.

It is also worth noting that assists and key passes are just as good an indicator of creativity as just someone who spams in crosses all game. Just means a pass where a shot was taken at the end of it.

Again I hate to be a bit negative but I've seen this pattern happen time and time again. Player comes in people are hyped. Player plays not as well as some people unrealistically expected. People turn against him. Player then eventually gets appreciated for what they although rarely unanimously. Then people begin over hyping some new player believing him to be what the previous player was not.

Only over 4 or 5 months at most, though. He was a bit of a donkey in his first half a season, and went through a purple patch. We took a punt seemingly based on that, or in spite of it (depending on whether it was scout recommended or just Poch's preference).
