1. Llorente JM said no!
2. Benteke JM said no!
3. Can’t remember his name, but striker playing in Portugal-permit issues
4. Mario Balotelli JM was not against. But don’t trust dealing with Italian clubs after recent experiences. The offer was 6 month loan, covering his wages. If happy, talk in summer. His club started to play games, and we had not even engaged, so backed off
5. Willian Josè was offered as loan with option. Certainly NOT obligation! Hence us going cold
6. KP (Polish striker from Milan). Agreed ALL . Loan with OPTION. Changed last minute to wanting Foyth/Lamela in similar deal.

How on earth we are going to blame DL is beyond me!

Why didn't we just do this then...

(Not a question to you Herc just find that bizarre as was supposed to be exactly what we wanted!!)

We wont sign a good established striker ever, while we have Kane, I don't understand why anyone thinks we would, genuinely don't get it. Both Son and Steve can and have played there. Why would we spend £20 odd million pound Striker to sit on the bench?

City back up striker, Jesus -£27M a number of seasons ago
Liverpool back up striker - Orgi, average at best
United back up striker - Don't really even have an out and out striker
Chelsea back up striker - Giroud

@robertobaggio not that I'm particularly bothered, how can you dislike that post... disagree sure.

Probably because every window we get this long list of players we tried for, but missed out on for a range of rubbish reasons. Paints us as the unluckiest club in the world.

Then we watch Leicester sign them with absolutely no issues 3 days into the summer window.

Easy. It goes back longer than this window. We’ve not had a suitable alternative to Kane and so run him into the ground - and sorry for all his lovers, Llorente was not a suitable alternative - chipped in with a couple goals but was never deemed good enough to allow Kane a rest. The mismanagement of this position has come back to bite us on the arse again, it’s really something that should have been looked at 2/3 years ago.

If Mourinho wasn't sure on a player why would we be trying to sign them. Are you suggesting that none of the suspects we were negotiating for were players Mourinho wasn't sure about? I find that difficult to believe.

lol Are you aware of some of Jose's signings at United? :cautious:

I don't see why Levy would back Jose on 2 signings and not a loan one, just seems odd. Hertha spent £27M on the Polish lad, how could you justify spending that on a guy who will have a run for 4-5 months then sit on the bench?

Chelsea were looking for a striker and failed, United are looking at spunking £25M on Josh fucking king?

Exactly how fat is the original Ronaldo these days?

If he’s not gone all Mido circa 2012 then a cheeky offer for 6 months?

He’d run more than Llorente :sneaky:

The Bale links are just ridiculous now. He does not give a fuck about Spurs or coming back.

Not a terrible window. Would have take OG for the rest of the season. He's extremely underrated.

It's not like those 6 are only strikers - even for short term - available. Landing no one is down to DL. Desperate need was there for best part of the month, he has seen how we play without a striker.

You're basically saying we can never blame Levy because clubs won't agree to our terms exactly. It's always the other club playing games.

Poor Levy, teams won't just let him loan their best players with no obligation to buy.

It's us that play games. Look at Lo Celso coming on loan to screw over PSG.

As the chairman of the club, if we desperately need a striker, and we don't get one, I'm not sure who else we're meant to blame to be honest. I have to take responsibility for things beyond my control in my job - everyone does - part of any job where you have control and responsibility is avoiding getting into a situation where you've left yourself without options. We haven't had a backup striker for 6 months. I blame Levy, not the Italains, or the striker who changed his mind at the last minute, or the agent who fucked with us. The buck stops with Levy. This was all completely avoidable.

Will be delighted if he pulls it out of the bag before the window closes but if he doesn't, who should we blame. Because it's certainly somebody's fault.

Having had dealings with Italian companies in the past I can say they always change at the end. You finally agree a deal you meet to sign a contract and they knock 5 or 10% off or they won't sign. We eventually used to only agree a deal for more than we'd accept so that when they fucked about we had it covered. It's not personal it's just business.
Thanks Herc, I am going to work on the basis that Levy and Mourinho have agreed that because of this we will go all out for a proper striker in the summer. We can but hope.

Levy is an excellent chairman, but he needs to rein in this desire to be in charge of all football transfers. It has cost us a golden opportunity over the last five years to win something. We still might with the core of a good squad still left, but a priority for the rest of this season is for Levy to employ an adequate Director of Football and leave him to it.

Exactly - once you've neglected the situation for this long, and have got into a desperate situation, your negotiation starting point is already week.
Its honestly so so poor.
As for "we're not very good at recruiting them", that's not good enough for the 8th richest football club in World Football.
