Are people seriously complaining about us having a lack of possession against Man City? One of the most expensively assembled and successful possession/pressing teams of all times, coached by the guy who’s MO is constant pressure and possession.

Do people really expect us to dominate them? What fucking planet are some of you lot on?

Agree Tucker, it’s a diff element type of game plan needed, understand your weaknesses, play to your strengths - seemed we did that yesterday, little bit of luck here and there (last minute own goal as an example) and poor finishing, but we took our chances and in some area played some good football.

Can only speak for myself, but it's more about how we're developing our game coupled with Mourinho saying that we can't be expected to have possession unless we have a forward that can keep the ball up for us (wich must mean that the idea is to go direct and move the team after, as opposed to move the team more gradually while passing).

Dominating possession vs. City will always be a tough ask, but going for 60 yard passes and flick ons as a means to get the ball to the final third as opposed to playing through the press more often, allowing the forwards to get into decent positions and deliver the ball into their feet instead of having them scramble for a flick on would be pretty welcome.

And that's not about the game yesterday, it's just as much about games vs. Soton, Norwich and Watford.

Surely Parrott is good enough to play against teams like Soton, Norwich and Watford for at least some minutes so we can mix it up a bit and keep hold of the ball.

He‘s completely hamstrung by the injuries and state of our squad etc though isn’t he, and he obviously thought our best chance of getting a result was to beat their high line, we had bags of pace up front and getting the ball past those high city defenders was always going to provide opportunities. The trouble with trying to beat City’s press is that more often than not you end up gifting them chances because they are so good at winning the ball back, look at the mistake Sanchez made that led to that Hugo save, that was directly from playing quickly out from the back in an attempt to beat the press.

I suspect once we have a settled midfield three with Ndombele and Lo Celso pulling the strings, we will see more passes as opposed to long balls. It’s just not on the cards right now, and especially not against City.

Do you all think this tightening up is down to Mourinho reacting to Kane's injury with a more defensive minded approach, or would it have happened anyway?

If Mourinho sees Ndombele and Lo Celso to compete with Gedson Winks and Dier in a midfield 2 we really are incredibly short of attacking options

From 4 positions we only have Berdwijn Son Lucas Dele Lamela Parrot to choose from. It's incredible we could get a couple of 6 month stop gaps...

Mourinho must be thinking of playing Ndombele or lo Celso more advanced

Surely you're not expecting a kid of 17 to be good enough to play against seasoned Premier League opposition like Soton, Norwich and Watford?

Where is the evidence that he is ready to play elite Premier League football?

I was surprised at how high up the pitch Ndombele played yesterday, he was pretty much in the number 10 role, looked very comfortable too.

It's clear that Mourinho is setting us up to become hard to beat, and to be fair that is where every manager should start. We were a relatively easy team to play against in the final year under Poch and now we seem a much more difficult side to break down. The next stage is to combine the two with good technical footballers who create chances & are ruthlessly clinical.

I think he'll switch between 4231, 433, and even 3412, and also play Sessegnon at LWF when need (and particularly once Davies is back).

It is thin without Parrott being deemed 1st team ready.

Would be a massive boost if he broke through, even as a bench option.

As I said, I wasn't necessarily talking about the City game in isolation. That will always be an uphill battle, but when Norwich, Soton and Watford so easily can press us into either going for direct passes to a lone forward or lead us into their pressing traps, then I find it kinda concerning, which my concern growing when Mourinho blames it on not having a target man up front.

But if we have Lo Celso and Ndombele on the pitch at the same time, a lot of the issues we've had lately will be solved pretty much automatically, so let's hope for that.

Think it may have something to do with that, along with having GLC come into the team more, seems to be a right combative midfielder type - slightly defensive has also helped.

still plenty of mistakes happening, also helps with Loris back too, whilst Gaza did amazing, lotus covers his goal way better

I thought this interesting:
Yes, Spurs have missed opportunities to close that on the top 4 but this is worth noting. The only clubs to have earned more Premier League points than Spurs (23) since Mourinho's appointment are Liverpool (39) and Man City (26). For the only sides that have scored more goals in that time, add Leicester; for the only sides that have conceded fewer, remove the Foxes from the equation and replace them with Sheffield United and Crystal Palace. Things are slowly clicking together.

This would have looked a lot lot better had we not lost Kane, Davies, Ndombele and lost Son to red, with him now going through a tough phase. But then in hindsight, Tanganga has grabbed the chance with injury to Davies. Defense has improved so well since Liverpool game. We will get ahead of Chelsea, if likes of Lo Celso and Ndombele stay fit

I feel like a big hypocrite because before he came here I did not like him at all but recognised he was a winner I now find myself liking him big time and thinking he will turn us into a trophy winning side ,

Starting to love José - decorum very good.

Just noticed in José's interviews - whenever he finishes answering a question, he sort of swallows and squints like he's trying really hard NOT to turn into a lizard.

Love how much personality he brings and how embedded within the club he has quickly become - feels like he's fighting for the club on all fronts, from interviews to pitchside and interactions with officials.

I love an impromptu non sequitur but this takes the cake. Still chuckling, minutes after I first read it.

Agree with this. As much as i'm not a fan of Jose's style, it's totally warranted here. Man City will dominate posssession versus anyone so better to organise the team to let them have the ball and then hit them on the counter, when they are at their most vulnerable.
