Now that he’s committed to centre back and is player well there, I’m mostly concerned that we extend his contract beyond the end of next season.

“Quite simply, Patrick was not prepared to remain silent. And who could blame him? He became embroiled in an argument with the man”

that’s from the guardian and others report similar.

The “fan” was giving Eric abuse and his brother confronted the man and seems escalated the situation.

Obviously the fan started the situation in terms of shouting at Eric.

I can see what you're saying, but I'm still not sure that his brother caused the problem. It's quite possible that he just just told the guy to shut up and he kicked off. He's probably one of those idiots who loves to give out abuse, but can't take any criticism himself. Would Dier have ended up in the crowd if his brother hadn't said anything? Probably not, but it's not like his brother was out looking for a fight.

I hope he gets a massive cheer at Burnley and the next home game. Needs to know not every Spurs fan is a total ****.

Of course he’s in line for a substantial ban after being one of our best players at CB in the last two games and looking really promising.

Saying that it was wrong implies not only that it was against the rules. It also implies that he should not have done it. But saying that as an employee he should not have done it, does not show that he should not have done it all things considered. Because he is not only an employee, he is also a human being and a brother.

Same goes for his brother. Sure, as someone who has been told not to get involved, he should not get involved. However, Eric's brother is not only someone who has been told not to get involved.

All things considered, both did the right thing.

Agree absolutely. When people start to determine that right and wrong actions are dictated by alignment with rules then that creates issues. Rules are meant to help people understand what actions or behaviors have consequences but whether an action or behavior is right or wrong transcends that.

In societies, right and wrong actions becomes an evaluation from moral and cultural values perspective and by all accounts and majority feedback since the incident, Dier's action is deemed as the right one under the circumstances. However, he will not be able to escape consequences from the rules set by FA so he and the club will suffer the consequences despite the consensus that he did nothing wrong.

Rules and regulations are not dynamic and will never be able to account for every single factor to be considered in every situation so it should never be the used as final determination of a right or wrong action. Its main purpose is to flag actions that are deemed to have consequences and people will have to factor in these consequences with other factors to determine if an action is right or wrong.

From what I've seen since Tobys has been dropped and Dier coming into the back line has encouraged me greatly.

I toggled with the idea of us selling Dier but personally find his defending/aggression a bit more commanding than Toby's. It would be nice to see him there for more games to truly gauge.

If there's one / two players in our squad living off past glory it has been Toby and Jan.

This was our season in a nutshell. He has his best game in what seems like 2 years and is going to get a lengthy ban for a post game mistake. (I'm not saying I wouldn't of done the same thing but even if it was Salah a ban would be handed out)

If by some miracle Foyth can come good at CB; Dier, Sánchez, Tanganga and Foyth (with Davies as an emergency back-up and with a bit more midfield solidity in front of them) could be a decent crop of CBs for the next few years. I think Toby will sort himself out too and we'll get a couple more good years out of him. I was really pleased for Jan the other night as well as, while his time is undoubtedly coming to an end, he must have rebuilt a bit of confidence with some of the good things he did.

What a phenomenal solid display in the 2nd half . We have been crying for a strong CDM and there is a 2017/18 Dier back. Today, He won almost every 50/50 ball. Good tackles and interceptions. Once he got the ball he would quickly release to Lo celso, Jan or Dele accurately. Winks will never produce such a silky performance.

He has arguably been along with Lo celso our best player today and also against Norwich and Wolves .
Limited ability but great heart its a pity a bit of Ndombele's ability and Dier's heart could not be swapped . Win Win situation .

Saw this on twitter, what I found interesting in watching it back is the way he appears to be just casually jogging along until he was actually needed/decided he needed to act, reminded me of someone but I can't think who.
