The Euro's won't go ahead 2020 and will be played next season so that the domestic leagues can be completed instead.

That might be what they are hoping, I guess it will all be much clearer in a few weeks how likely that will be.

It would be funny if the season was void, but the legal ramifications would be too high.

The legal ramifications of not voiding it are the same though - those teams who have players and staff with the virus are going to complain of an unfair disadvantage.

Has any precedent been set in other countries regarding the cancellation of a season? Do we start this one over? Make the rest of the results 0-0 and finish where we all fall?

Both feel unfair for multiple reasons.

We would welcome the cleansheets

Another problem with voiding the current season and basing promotion/relegation and Europe off 18/19 standings is stuff like CL money. Spurs for example would benefit greatly from effectively doubling their CL revenue. Not really fair.

There's no completely fair scenario here though. The most fair one is to null and void the season. Given that the CL competition is also likely to get null and voided then it makes sense too.

Basically they are all bad scenarios for people, but null and voiding everything is the most fair of an unfair set of options IMO.

I don't fair and not fair.
I think in a league, you have a ranking at any given time. So there is a 1st, a 2nd, a 3rd etc. So that can end early.
In a cup with several rounds left, there is no such ranking. There is just a bunch of teams which all have made to a given round, but no shot at distinguishing further. So that could be reset and played again from the start (group stage). I don't really know if "fair" is the most important consideration under such circumstances.

Yeh there is a difference in cup and league of course, but now that decisions have been made to suspend football due to Coronavirus it means that until there is a level playing field for clubs (i.e. no more Coronavirus pandemic) then you can't justify re-starting a competition.

Given that we're likely months away from the end of the pandemic in Europe, i can't see how they can re-start these competitions without it impacting next season, which again will lead to a lack of fairness for clubs.

Ultimately i still think null and voiding the season will be the best way forward, but it is shit for many clubs (albeit better for Spurs).

It’s likely that the PL will follow UEFA on this. If UEFA suspend the Euros and void the CL and EL, the PL will follow suit.

You can see that no sporting body wants to run in a way that would make them look as though their competition is more important than restricting spread of a pandemic.

Competitions have been voided before due to extreme outside factors, such as war. Right now, sport is going to be considered unimportant compared to the World’s health.

Has to be playoffs; it'll be ace!! We'll have all our big hitters back and can play off for places 6-10!!
The A-League has 10 teams and after a regular season the top 6 have a playoff.

3rd vs 6th, 4th vs 5th in the Elimination Final.

1st and 2nd then play the winners of that in the Semi Final.
Then the two winners play the Grand Final.

Prolongs the season and can feel a bit unfair if the 1st team was so far ahead then loses in the playoffs but that's the game.. could be fun!

It's a really tricky one. Does the precedent of what happens in a single game matter here? If a game gets abandoned we USUALLY see that the game is totally restarted, right? AKA this would back the null and void theory.

Saying that, the language for a 90 minute game is very vague:

”…any League Match which from any cause whatever falls short of 90 (ninety) minutes’ duration may be ordered to count as a completed fixture or be replayed in full or in part on whatever terms and conditions the Board shall in their absolute discretion determine and shall be played in compliance with these Regulations and the Football Association Rules respectively and under the Laws of the Game as approved by the International Football Association Board”.

What are we going to do with no football?
We get the two best players to duke it out on FIFA or whatever it's called but they must constantly pause the game and post what's happening in the match thread. Then, based on that, we can all moan about our preferred scapes or air our favourite gripe regardless of what actually happens.

It'll be just like the real thing
