You're on crack if you think Levy would allow the placing to stay as they would now.

Within 4 points is nothing in the grand scheme and Levy will argue that weren't out of it.

I'm looking at the league table now trying to establish which teams would be in favour of nulling the season. No relegation, no champions, no CL places for those in it.

Us
Chelsea
City
Norwich
Villa
Bournemouth
Watford
West Ham
Brighton
Southampton
Newcastle
Burnley?
Palace?
Everton?

At most 14.

These teams are either in a stronger position, the same situation or couldn't care less if it was nulled.

What if the season ended as it is. Who would be in support?

Liverpool
Leicester
United? (dependent on 5th spot being in CL) their fans would be happy to see the title taken away from Pool.
Watford
West Ham
Brighton
Southampton
Newcastle
Everton?
Palace
Burnley? although they could still get Europa.

At most 11.

Same scenarios but who would be unsatisfied.

Nulled....

Liverpool
Leicester
Wolves
United
Sheff Utd

5 teams at most?

Finalised as it is...

Wolves
Sheff Utd
Spurs
Arsenal
Burnley
Bournemouth
Villa
Norwich

8 teams at most

If the PL had to choose in terms of legal possibilities then annuling may be the least damaging.

With regard to European competition, why not do something a bit left field...

Teams in the top half of every top flight league play in one giant cup knockout competition for one season only. Teams can be seeded, but essentially it runs from August to late May.

I don't know, just an idea...

The question in my view isn't really what we do with this season.
It will finish, be that in June, August or even February next year.
Way too many issues if it doesn't.
In respect of transfer windows, these will just be adjusted to happen between the end of current season and start of next one, temporarily, out of contract players such as Jan, we could continue to play on a short-term contract basis.

The more realistic question is when will the season after the current one realistically start ?

Anyone who thinks it will be voided and we will have a free crack at another Champions League is just pie in the sky wishful thinking.

I think voiding the season is firmly on the table and not pie in the sky at all. Based on what the government has been saying this could well go on for months. I don't see the whole football world picking this season up where it left off should the suspension continue until say August. That would be a massive upheaval that would take many seasons to recover from schedule wise. It would also make fitting the European Championships a real struggle to fit in.

The more I think of it the more voiding the season seems the tidiest. Initially I was in the camp of just stopping the season wherever it ends but in many ways once you take the formality of Liverpool out of the question it would be pretty unfair everywhere else.

The only way to avoid voiding the league IMO is if all the games can be completed in time before the 6-week mandatory break that I believe the players require, so realistically before the end of June or July at the latest (even this would lead to a 1-2 month late start of the league). Even finishing behind closed doors brings up issues with a level playing field, which could be argued as the difference between relegation and CL qualification if the final margins are fine.

Us getting CL qualification out of the league being voided is a different story altogether as there is no precedent. The PL could go down the route of using last year's 4 with Leicester coming in for City should they be banned, again that would probably be the neatest, if not necessarily the fairest (it would be an absolute robbery on our part).

Only my opinion but if and it is a big if at this stage, the rest of the season can’t be played the biggest issue in all of this isn’t who the champions are but the teams getting relegated!

I would have thought voiding the season due to extraordinary circumstances such as a global pandemic would face less of a legal challenge than simply ending the season as it stands. The teams relegated would have a strong legal case based on the fairness of the situation. On the flip side the teams in promotion places would argue they had been unfairly treated too, but none of those are in a position where they are guaranteed promotion!

Either way it’s going to be an interesting few months ahead!

I've personally found it hard to watch Spurs of the past couple of months, so this is actually a relief. If Liverpool miss out due to this they will be as sick as a Troy. It's a shame the Champions League wasn't postponed before the Leipzig match as then we could have alleged that it was being cancelled only to stop us winning it!

If we postpone the Euros to 2021 will the World Cup still go ahead in the middle of the following season in Quatar?
Could cause massive problems for a couple of seasons.
Or have I got all the dates wrong ?

At the earliest, football is expected to return in May. The current postponement until April 4 gives the authorities space to assess the situation rather than being a realistic return date. | @LaurieWhitwell

Btw, which clubs are going to get hammered financially because of this?

Behind a paywall so I can’t read it but the opening suggests all the tv money won’t be forthcoming. That could fuck over a lot of clubs who are very dependent on it.
