And Brugges were 15 point clear.
Vastly different circumstances to the PL.

It's almost exactly the same circumstance? A runaway title winner, but (very) competitive races for Europe and relegation.

Be horrible for Liverpool fans to just be given it. They’d forever have to fend off it wasn’t a real win. Better than null and void though I guess.

unbelievable! reading this just makes you think what planet are the people running the Premier League living on. If this plan is carried out it will make a pure mockery of finishing the league!
The government would likely step in to stop it

1 game left with only a single possible winner, not the same in the Premier League

I. Think the split gives them an extra opportunity for this over the PL.
The fixtures only run up to the next game so far. After the split, no games have been scheduled as of yet.

So bar the last set of fixtures they have played each other home and away(? Might be wrong on that)

That's the difference

DeBruyne has said players will need 3-4 weeks to be match fit, and can't just be "ready" when the PL say it's time to start.

There was only 1 game left to play in the Belgian league though. Much different situation than 9 games here
1 game left of regular season, then they split the teams for relegation , Euro spot and title play offs playing each other twice.
With the top team 15 points clear it’s still pretty hard to argue giving them the league

Exactly.

Players will want to play again certainly. But they won't be happy if they are told they need to be match fit immediately and then only get 2 weeks rest before a new season starts.

I can see players and associations being on different pages here.

A slightly separate note but this period of having no football has confirmed to me that we have too much football today. It's all starting to become watered down, so much that some games get completely erased from memory.

Unfortunately the money men are leading this game in the wrong direction.

I haven't really missed it at all. Then again, right now it's just like the usual summer gap between seasons, just that no-one actually completed the season.

Lets be honest, we can have this pragmatic view because we stunk when it ground to a halt. For supporters of clubs like Chelsea, United, Leicester, Sheffield, etc. they were all still looking like having a good scrap and imagine the 'pool fans.

They've basically go to the end of season 1 of Firefly whereas we've been watching the last series of Crossroads. It's going to be much harder for them to take when the news comes.

Vastly different circumstances to the PL.

Not really, because points get halved after the 30th game.

They were 15 points clear with one normal season game to go.
That would have become 8 points clear with 10 games to go (and all six-pointers in effect) when the Top 6 went into play off mode.
So not a runaway leader by any stretch, and places 2 to 6 were very close for the European places, but they have been declared anyway based on current positions.

Football is currently not in the governments best books. I’d guess they will shit down any plan with the slightest risk to public health.

What did I say!?!? Hello, the Athletic are you reading our posts???

Now, Premier League clubs are scrambling, in some cases increasingly desperately, for ideas to complete the season on the field. As the industry seeks to stay afloat, the ideas are becoming more creative. For example, The Athletic learned on Thursday that one club has even suggested exploring the feasibility of completing the domestic season abroad.

The idea centres on the concept of examining the curves related to coronavirus cases across the world and identifying regions where it would be considered both safe on health grounds and feasible in terms of infrastructure to host the remainder of the Premier League season. In this instance, China, considered to be on the path towards recovery after suffering at the turn of the year, was mooted as the destination of choice. The proponents of the idea suggested that taking the Premier League out of the country would be a way to decrease strain on the National Health Service and free up club facilities for use by emergency services and local authorities. The idea may be up for discussion in Friday’s meeting but other clubs have already indicated they will dismiss the concept.

Let’s just move the Premier League to China, lock stock and barrel

They’ve been so accommodating through this whole nasty episode and they seem to have quite a big pot of money

Or maybe Qatar or the UAE etc might be able to take over
The atmospheres in the grounds would be similar and the players would be able to drive their supercars around a lot faster over there, which would be nice for them

They are completely delusional the season won’t be finished. Covid 19 is in 203 countries. Some countries haven’t even got near their peak yet. Unless every country bans air travel and has a total lockdown for a month this won’t end till there’s a vaccine or a cure found. What player or member of staff or official would be a guinea pig. We’re already seeing fit people under 40 sadly die.

Looks like they want to finish the season off one way or another.

What happens if a player or coach or physio or the tea lady becomes ill? Everyone back in isolation? Until a vaccine or treatment is found that’s what’ll happen. In addition you have vital ambulance services (and police) at football stadia that are needed elsewhere. It's totally selfish and arrogant.

The football world is pretending that they're in control of a situation that is way beyond their control. It's pointless making any plans for sport until this pandemic has greatly subsided.

This is the thing that will break modern football. It’s going to be hard for them to continue living the bubble that they do post this pandemic
