There are too many questions with no real answers. Football simply cannot return any time soon. I haven’t, until now, missed the game but it’s starting to hurt now. I know we’ve been awful but there is no relief from life at the moment. Even when we’re shit I come on here to read people’s comments....who should we sign? Who should we drop? This player is shit/awesome etc Lineups for next game.... I’m starting to struggle and I want football back, not for any other reason than feeling some sort of normality. I know it can’t happen and nor should it but I can’t wait for it to come back just so that we can get back to thinking about Spurs or anything other than this bloody virus! Love to all. COYS!

Very much not to be fair to him. You may be thinking of Redknapp or carragher, or any former liverpool player basically. Neville has talked the most sense of anyone on sky in my opinion
Yeah the twitter rants must have been someone else. I was certain it was Neville, but I'm wrong.

Regarding European qualification. I honestly and sincerely do not want us to be in it. Only for one sole reason-Covid-19!

Absolutely no argument is going to convince me to be in favour. There is zero chance of a vaccine being ready in time, and the certain clouds over isolation etc. And whilst understanding the reasoning behind PL’s desires to complete the season somehow. I am here in full agreement with THST latest statement.

The whole idea of behind closed doors is somehow being touted as normal to a degree and no big deal. That’s without any other considerations. Trust me after a couple of games realising how dead this will be there will be very little appetite for it. They might get away with it for 9 games. But no idea how they could roll it out for a whole season.

I watched United game in the Europe league in early March behind closed doors.

It was absolutely awful. Plenty of goals, Igahlo wonder strike but still awful.

Without fans it's just a crock of shit really.

If VAR didn’t kill the game then this will. It will be amusing watching the authorities struggling to realise this. They really don’t get it in regards to the fans.

What is your alternative? Just dont bring the game back until fans can watch? There literally wont be anything left to come back to if that was the case. They have to proceed with behind closed doors as its the fastest option to get their businesses back up and running, if they dont entire leagues worth of clubs will cease to exist, nothing.

All this talk of greedy leagues yet this is the most selfish opinion of the lot, you are literally saying "i would rather thousands of people lost their jobs and clubs hundreds of years old disappeared because i don't like the idea of teams playing in a sub-optimal atmosphere". Or worse "If i cant go to games there should be no games until i can go, i always go to games" which ive seen in this thread.

It's not ideal but it's going to be the only way to keep things alive. And it's in Sky/BT/BBC's interest to make it work, I'm sure they'll find a way.

That works for PL and probably the championship, but if fans can't get back to watch lower leagues, they will fold rather quickly. They need to have a plan on how to keep these club's going also.

True, but thats not what people are talking about in this case. I would guess the lower leagues might do some sort of pay per view thing for each game, to try and get some ticket money back online or something. It's definitely the lower end of the game that are suffering the most.

Agree it really is that simple. There won't be fans in a stadium until there's a vaccine. So realistically it's most of, if not probably all of next season behind closed doors.

This. People need to get used to the idea of behind closed doors for a while, there simply is no alternative until stadium events are allowed again so suck it up. The internet will be full of people crying about how shit it is when the games are broadcast with no fans, how there's no atmosphere and all that. I'm sure the people's who's jobs are being saved will not give one single fuck and just be thankful they can pay their bills and that they have a football club to go back too.

You're quite the mind reader.

Just because you don't appreciate people who go to games and think the TV audience is the be all and end all, doesn't mean other people do. If you think a whole season of missing match day income isn't going to completely fuck over the top division then you're very much mistaken, they will need to get fans into grounds at some point next season. As for lower leagues, the opening up of grounds and administering the game without gate receipts has been widely discussed as being the death knell for many clubs in those divisions.

Mind reader? Its been 80 pages of people writing the same bloody thing over and over again i don't need to be a mind reader.

The importance of no gate receipts has never been in doubt, dont change your point in retrospect, you said the authorities dont get it with regards to behind closed doors and it will be the end of football.

So what is it the authorities 'don't get' then? What are they not understanding? What do you suggest they should be planning instead?

It's almost as if the tv companies have it in their interests to make the only possible outcome work as best they can. Nobody wants it to be the case but it is, it's what we have.

Now you've successfully changed the subject twice to avoid it but if you fancy answering any of the questions i asked you before feel free.

To get behind closed doors to work all they have to do is get Tony Gale commentating.

Then everyone will switch off the sound anyway ?

Cancel season.
No promotion or relegation
Liverpool 'Honoury' Coronavirus Champions.

Big handouts to all leagues below Premiership and Women's football

Probably unfair but it won't affect us. We don't deserve owt and won't get owt.

Substitute Liverpool 'Honoury' Coronavirus Champions to fuck that, and that's a great plan

He's not saying he wants football without fans, he's stated that of course the gate receipts are important. His argument is that right now it's a choice between behind closed doors, or no football at all. And with that choice it's clear that having it behind closed doors is preferable

I think this whole issues serves as a microcosm for the problems we're all going to face in the next few months. The way we run our society dictates that we simply must go back to work as soon as it's at all possible; to not do so is to risk economic devastation or even collapse. That will mean returning to work before it's 100% safe. It will therefore mean that some people catch the virus when they wouldn't otherwise have done and, yes, die from it. Right now there's a lot of sympathy for footballers not wanting to play. But once the rest of us are forced out to take that risk, I don't think that sympathy will last.
