I think this whole issues serves as a microcosm for the problems we're all going to face in the next few months. The way we run our society dictates that we simply must go back to work as soon as it's at all possible; to not do so is to risk economic devastation or even collapse. That will mean returning to work before it's 100% safe. It will therefore mean that some people catch the virus when they wouldn't otherwise have done and, yes, die from it. Right now there's a lot of sympathy for footballers not wanting to play. But once the rest of us are forced out to take that risk, I don't think that sympathy will last.
It's not so much about individuals dying per se, it's about not wanting to see our health systems overwhelmed - that's what it's always been about. Football will return - the question is merely whether to knock it on the head for this season.

It's almost as if the tv companies have it in their interests to make the only possible outcome work as best they can. Nobody wants it to be the case but it is, it's what we have.

Now you've successfully changed the subject twice to avoid it but if you fancy answering any of the questions i asked you before feel free.

Theres not much point, it seems like you already have all the answers and know what everyone else thinks. Maybe you should be involved at Premier League HQ.

I haven't said anything about what everyone thinks, i pointed out that a few people seem to be inherently against behind closed doors games (based on actual words written in here by actual people) for selfish reasons when there is no other alternative right now without clubs going bankrupt.

If i got what you were saying wrong you have had the opportunity to clarify it or correct me three times and instead of doing that you got stroppy for some reason. I asked your opinion and you went all middle aged woman arguing with her husband on me. You're one step from telling me if i love games being played behind closed doors so much then to go marry one.

One more time for old times sake- If the Premier League are so out of touch with the fans by proceeding with plans to play without anyone at the games, what in your opinion should they be doing instead? What is the alternative?

I think for me, especially looking at how things are in the UK, this current season (19/20) should be over. I don't see us ready to do any BCD games before June 30th. And I think June 30th will have to be the deadline because of when contracts end because that's an extra wrinkle in everything that'll mess things up even more.

As FIFA I believe have come out with, the aim should be to try and focus on figuring out a good plan for the 20/21 season. Aim for BCD games for then. Gives the UK (and the PL) more time to prepare things (like locations, personnel etc...). Also by then (hopefully) the UK will be better equipped to manage things. Will be well before we have a vaccine still but should be out of lockdown by then and able to have slightly bigger mass gatherings (though still a way away from having fans there). Could be a lot more doable if the European competitions are cancelled (as I personally just cannot fathom how we can justify teams travelling all over Europe during all of this). Would give more time for leagues to plan games around. Would also give teams the possibility to start the season in September if need be rather than August if we need a few more weeks to prepare things.

As for teams/leagues etc... going bankrupt, I don't know the answer for that. Ultimately no solution will be perfect and if we're looking at the 91 teams in the league then I doubt all 91 are equipped to handle this. Potentially some government intervention could help out a little more or some of the richer teams in the league help keep the league going. Some sacrifices/inventive thinking will need to be put out here to keep teams afloat during all of this. Will be even more of an awful look morally when Man Utd/Man City/Chelsea/Someone spends this summer spending 100million on one flashy player whilst a couple of league 1 and 2 teams go bankrupt. Would be surprised to see many major money deals this summer given how much teams stand to lose + public perception (but capitalism and business model often wins and no-one ever looks at football to take the moral high ground).

Ultimately, I'm personally just not a fan of BCD games (as many seem to be) but just cause I'm not a fan of them doesn't mean I think they shouldn't happen at all. I think doing them before July is near impossible given all the info that's been put out and where we are with cases etc... but to start next season that might be the safest/best option.

Easy, cancel the season now and not to restart until it is safe for games to be played again with crowds, if this means next season being postponed as well, so be it.

There are definitely a lot of crossroads up ahead, ethically, morally and financially. I don't think we're going to see fans allowed at games until January at the earliest so what season it is is almost irrelevant in my opinion.

Thats exactly it, it could be a year until that happens, so there will be no football then as there will be no clubs then. Its not a case of hitting pause, lower league clubs will have no playing staff left by November.

Fair, though just in my head it's the idea of only sacrificing one season (this one) rather than two very changed seasons that might roll on into a third/fourth etc...

And you just expect clubs from all levels to keep bleeding money until that point? They'll be none left.

I think people forget that whenever any of the restrictions are lifted, that doesn't mean people are in any way any safer. Nothing has changed from the day the restrictions were imposed. the only time when it will be 'safe' for any form of close proximity social interaction to take place is when there is a vaccine.

The EPL may be able to mitigate the risks to the players but it will never be safe (until there is a vaccine). Putting anybody in that position unnecessarily is completely wrong in my opinion. The only people who should be allowed to take those risks are the key workers (who i have the upmost sympathy for). It's utterly irresponsible for anybody to try and force/encourage somebody else to put themselves in harms way.

Lol, there is nothing easy about that. The main difficulty will be the amount of clubs that no longer exist by the time it's safe to play in front of crowds.

What's BCD?

What the fuck is it with some of you? Why does everything have to be shortened? Anyone who feels the need to make them up is AGBC, they ain't right in the fucking head.

Sounds good! Once the loan repayments are due, which club will you sell Harry Kane to fund them? :)

"Should government restrictions allow"

That's a massive fucking caveat. I honestly believe the song and dance is about making sure they don't breach their contracts with broadcasters

If the decision to cancel is made by the government, i assume it will change liability.

I just don't see why players expose themselves to an illness that is known to damage hearts and lungs.

And the use of neutral venues is nonsensical. Spurs have played all our rivals away - but we don't get the return fixture?

None of this makes sense given the current climate.

How on earth will it change the liability ?
PL have been paid for a product they have failed to deliver, they will have to refund £762m if it doesn't deliver.

And government restrictions being lifted have always been part of the return.

If the PL clubs show all reasonable efforts were made, and the cancellation was beyond their control, it becomes harder for the tv companies to sue them for failure to fulfill delivery under contracted terms

Just my hunch

Yeah I suppose, just like all the airlines can keep the money for holidays and flights that people have paid for that they can't deliver and was beyond their control.
Oh wait they can't

This would be extremely unfortunate for us, as we haven't played the home fixtures for United, West Ham, Everton, Arsenal or Leicester.
