I'm very critical of Sissoko, but I think he's done an admirable job over these past 2 games and looks a solid option alongside Lo Celso.I don't think anybody can argue that we haven't looked more solid over the past 2 games relative to the rest of the season. I'd also put forward and say that our moves in terms of switching the ball from attack to defence after a turnover have got a lot faster which is a good sign. I'd say reworking our defensive foundations was always going to be the first order of business as it should be for any team and the attack will hopefully come in time.
I haven't particularly enjoyed the football but have enjoyed the improvement of midfield 2 and the two CB's in terms of solidity even if it isn't perfect yet, it's a big step forward and it should give us hope that a reasonably good summer would vastly improve things further.
However, I think our ability to switch from defence to attack would be so much better if we brought in a DM with a bit more of a passing game to get the ball upfield to Son, Kane and Berwijn as quickly as possible. Sissoko's passing is always a bit dodgy and he often gets it wrong or plays it extremely safe. Maybe someone like Hojbjerg could come in and do that job a lot better?
I think that kind of signing could potentially make our ugly, sterile football actually quite thrilling on the break if we get it right.
