Well we scraped a draw and scraped into sixth. I feel sorry for Wolves and Sheffield United who were much better than us but suffered after lockdown.

Actually I feel sorry that our levels have fallen so far so quickly but will always have the memories of what we were for a few seasons.
Memories of what?

It's a god damned European trophy that we haven't won since 1984, and we haven't won anything in 12 years.

I think it's completely mad to belittle it.

For me you win something by being the best. The best in the league or in a cup. Obviously no format is perfect for finding the "best" team, but the EL clearly fails on determining who is the best of anything in Europe that season.

It reminds be a bit about the B-heats they got during track and field events. Someone usually wins the 100m 2 hours before the main event even begins etc.

Hopefully we will give the likes of Tanganga and Cirkin some minutes.

I'm sure if we would be more attractive than Leicester if a player had to make a choice between the 2 though we dont currently have CL.
I agree, but there are always great players that want to join CL clubs and prem clubs. Im not worried about Leicester being a more attractive proposition for potential signings, I just think they would’ve attracted a higher caliber of player if they were in the CL and therefore have a better team and a better chance of repeating their form next season.

The only innovation that got my blood flowing all year was harry winks hiding behind the wall to block shots like a little guttersnipe.

Surely then extrapolation on that basis only the top team from every league should be in any European competition? Because how can you be the best in Europe if you aren’t even the best in your own country?
And while not the best in Europe in terms of glory, winning the Europa League does mean you are the best in that European league/cup competition by your definition, surely?

Cup competitions are inherently flawed for finding the best in anything, cups (well to me anyway) are about glory, all or nothing passion and a good slice of luck. Yes the European competitions aren’t solely a cup, but they play out as a cup knockout so I’d class them in the same category.

Not exactly the same. It is like if the League Cup excluded the top 10 teams in the PL. Which is almost how it use to work at one point. Or saying winning the Championships is better than just staying in the PL. Doesn't add up to me.

The EL is great for Norwegian and Estonian teams. Just because it is fun playing teams from other countries. Winning it isn't really on their mind.

And even if I don't care about it most do. So even better for the Norwegian and Estonian teams.

That’s one way to look at it, though it’s just as easy to look at the EL as Europe’s FA Cup to the the CL as Europe’s league (and any of the CL teams could be in the EL, so they aren’t excluded). Not sure why the EL has to be looked at as a lowly nothing by anyone but minnow teams who want to ‘travel about and have a bit of fun’.

Not a great game to watch, a draw was a fair result. Europa Cup, here we come. A difficult season for us with the change manager and quite a few injuries during the season, all in all, a sixth place in the premiership is a decent position to finish,.COYS!!!!

We were 14th when Jose took over. 4th best record since he has been in charge. I'm optimistic about next season and competing for top 4, going deep in Europa and having a shot at a domestic cup all depending on the draws and fixtures. I see no reason to believe next year will be as bad as this one in terms of results.

The only bit of the game I’ve seen is our goal. It was lovely. Probably won’t bother with MOTD when I get home tomorrow. Time to obsessively keep tabs on transfer rumours now!

100% agree.

Another shocking performance. Completely reliant on wonder strikes from Kane to get anything from a game. Offered nothing else. Outplayed by Palace on a dreadful run of form.

And Jose jumping up & down as if we've won the league. Embarrassing.

Maybe he saw the Amazon camera filming him and wanted to add a bit of drama for the final episode. Then the screen goes black and it says "To be continued..."

I'm sure Jose Mourinho will take it very seriously indeed.
Well, to be honest, that'd make a nice change.

When we in it before it was never really taken very seriously by any manager although i'm sure someone will correct me on that, but I can't remember it. Naturally those with the agenda will give him a slagging for not resting players and if he did, give him a slagging for not winning it :D

I'd give my eye teeth to win the Europa League, it would be a fantastic achievement for our club. These snooty comments that we're too good for it, in spite of our wretched record of winning next to nothing for 30 years, absolutely infuriate me. This time round I think we've got a real chance in it, and hope we don't take it lightly at all.

What ever you think of the uefa we need the money. We also go straight into it in the first week of the seaon I think so we might get a full house if people are itching to get back in the stadium.

It’s good to be in it if only to give players like Sessegnon, Cirkin, white, Parrot maybe even Ndombele opportunities to force there way in.

Which ones were those? We were in the CL, too, you know?

It hasn't been on since we last played in it.

Since the lockdown we are not in the CL though Liverpool and Man City are, they may be below us in form but their premierleague form isnt as important to them as it is to us, they have gone beyond the time when their positions can be over taken hence the context of us being 4th on form can be understood. Comprendi?

Well no, because it makes sod all sense.

What about the other 2 teams? The subject is the 'top four' not the 'top two'.

We have outperformed the teams in 3rd and 4th, just as Man Utd have, so much so that one of them has dropped to 4th (needing qualys, I think) and the other has missed out on the CL. Therefore, ignoring the Poch part of the season, we would be in the CL.

So trying to make a strange reason to ignore the fact that we've outperformed the teams who were previously sailing in CL qualification is scraping through the bottom of the barrel.

Full house? Dream on. Be lucky if they allow 5,000 in by then
