And that would be massive mistake.

One would play, the other wouldn't. That's the decision a manager has to make. I've watched both, and while Ndombele has talent, he's not going to fulfil it here. Partey is built for the PL and the one every manager would side with given a choice between the two. Statsbomb mean well but I really see little value in their models. I bet Aurier and Sissoko look good. I wouldn't want them in my team!

I didnt misuse the word in the way youre suggesting because I clearly meant it in the context of what I was saying and then found an article which had quotes from Levy.

I haven't been having a go at Levy. I meant it in the context of if we want to compete in the transfers with big teams then we can't afford to miss out on the champions league money not literally couldn't afford to sign players.
I now understand how you meant it, I just didn’t infer it that way initially. And I fancied a bit of pedantry.

Ok, now I see what you're saying. Maybe it's negative, but I don't expect us to ever be able to compete with either Manchester club or Chelsea in the market, especially now FFP is dead. Liverpool are run similarly to us, so further growth in our commercial and matchday revenue might see us on a level playing field with them before long (at least while FSG are there), if we're not already. I'd say we've overtaken Arsenal now.

We seem to be in a strong position with PEH simply because no-one better than us wants him. And if a team better than us did want him, he'd go there regardless of whether we offered Southampton what they want. It's like Berbatov, Modrić and countless other deals Levy's done over the years. It's his MO. Maybe £5m saved on this deal can get us another Dele?

@yankspurs - how did that go with Ndombele and Lo Celso last summer?

Yeah I appreciate you can see it in the context of how I meant it. I agree with you that I don't see us ever competing with those teams and that's okay because I dont want owners like those of Chelsea and City.

I just think maybe we can balance it better and we might have to sacrifice the possibility of getting another Dele if it means our manager gets his dm early and can get him tactically up to speed which could be the difference top4 and as you say that could then lead to improved revenue in the style of Liverpool.

By the countless articles saying what a dent being out the champions league has been to our finances.

Edit: here you go: https://www.skysports.com/football/...ans-will-be-impacted-without-champions-league

Literally from the man himself.
Definitely - tbh I’m surprised that there is any budget at all what with the revenue hit because of Covid and now the lack of CL football but that comes back to your point about a middle ground because the team does have to be invested in in order to push for a top 4 place next season and/or make a concerted effort to qualify by winning the EL.

Massive LOL at the Southampton paper claiming three unnamed European clubs as when they name checked Everton as bidders it was swiftly shown to be lies.

I think SCBC needs a new mouthpiece paper.
Almost certainly bollox but at least it's about PEH

While I'm here what do people think of our current midfielders and who would people like us to sign this summer and using which strategy ?

Please keep your answers brief (say, less than 10,000 words)

They never have the running stats on these fancy diagrams either.

Hope we get this done over the next two weeks so he's ready for pre season.

PEH is a good and clever player. He also has a cynical and "dirty" side that I think Mourinho values quite highly.

+1. Rupert Lowe used to call us the North London yobbos back in the day when we snatched Hoddle from them.
