I don’t understand this lop sided full back idea. It’s been introduced as if it is some sort of tactical genius voodoo; nobody else plays it for a reason. Why take away a half of your attacking outlet. So teams plug our right hand side and we are them impotent. It’s utter rubbish.

8 players who either started or were involved in last seasons opener against Newcastle were again involved with our opening day fixture this season - this is a team that people for the most part felt was in decline and needed addressing ....

If i was Kane I would definitely think about leaving. He could play for City and get a dozen chances a game, instead he has to play for us who can't even get the ball to him.

His attitude was shit today too. He looks fucked and he wasn’t leading by example at all.

We were worryingly lacklustre today. Nothing has changed, our pressing was non existent and no football intelligence. A back up striker is not gonna solve our problems. Hopefully DL will see that more is needed and we go all out for some creativity, I just hope we can trust José to pick right players. Not convinced we can so far.

I reckon we could finish behind Wolves, Leicester, and Everton nevermind our erstwhile "top six" rivals. Season is shaping up to be an absolute disaster unless we get a massive improvement once (or, rather, if) Ndombele and Lo Celso are fully fit and available.
Mate, Ndombele isn't the solution I dont think any player is. The players have the ability to play better than this, much better, something just didn't work today. It's a systematic problem, be it confidence, be it tactical, be it rustiness. Unfortunatly, it is a systematic problem we saw a lot of last year..

Ultimately, It's one game, and too early to make much from it. The first game rarely is a good reflection of how the season will pan out, however, it was a terrible performance.

If I was Kane I would seriously consider going to Levy and handing in a transfer request.

Can we please not spend another season dragging different players every other game? This is a manager issue - not a player issue. I realize some people will never learn, but at least spare us with the pre-scheduled Winks/Dier/Sissoko slander. Always the same shit. Under the right manager they would all be above average players, perfectly capable of playing in a team that hovers around top 4.

Exactly. Some people think spending money is always the answer but you’ve first got to ask yourself is the manager getting the best out of what is available to him? Cuz all your favourite scapegoats at one time have performed at a high level.

Lost for words after that. Disgusted.

Looking forward to Jose blaming where Everton took the free kick from.

Jose will break records with Spurs. That’s “no defeats on the first day of the season” broken for starters.

Would love to know the reasoning behind the Dele substitution. Can't see him being happy at all.
Err. Did you watch Dele that first half? He was absolutely terrible. His first touch is just miles off for this level of play.

Admittedly Sissoko is probably not who I'd have brought on, but Dele can have 0 complaints about being taken off.

I think we need to sell sissoko, winks, lamela for whatever the money other team gives us and improve the team .... Sissoko, winks, lamela, davies, moura are so so so limited playerz it's beyond imagination ....

When's the season over?

You must admit, that was really concerning, especially second half.

No reaction, no leaders, just strolling about.

Maybe this is Mourinho's moment to crack some skulls.

Or maybe we're so fucking fascinated by our acting roles for the documentary we've taken our eye off what's most important in terms of a football club.

Ironically Allan did a superb job of doing exactly what all of us wanted when we spent last season begging for a CDM. Screened the back four effectively, before bypassing the press and playing it simple to one of their more creative players.

None of our midfielders look capable of that, and the byproduct of that inability will be to limit the creative players (GLC, Ndombele).

We were shit at the end of Poch.

But we were bloody good for 4 years under Poch.

Fucking hate it when people use that excuse.

Agree. Poch had mentally checked out after he didn't land the Man Utd job, but even through that final year we still showed glimpses of proper attacking football.

I'm putting this on Mourinho. Not for the loss as any team can lose. But for how he approaches games and his failure to allow our best players to express themselves. This isn't knee jerk, barring the 5-0 against Burnley I can't recall a game with Jose where we've dominated the opposition.

We should of bought doucoure. He’s been a solid pl midfielder for years.
I actually felt we should have signed him alongside Hojbjerg because then you have a very solid base.

Hojbjerg alone was never going to be enough because at the end of the day you need a box to box mid alongside him, which Winks isn't and Sissoko lacks the quality.

Ndombele could do it but needs to improve massively and you'd prefer Lo Celso further forward.

Even if Ndombele does improve we are very light in that position.

I'd rather go into games knowing that we'll be fine in the centre no matter what.

Forget Bale and a LB now. Put all that money towards a box to box midfielder who has a little creativity.
