Should have gone for Allan rather than Hojbjerg who looked laboured out there. We couldn't keep the ball in any meaningful way & created only 2 decent chances in the whole game. Very poor & doesn't bode well for the season.

The least you can ask for is desire and energy. If you don’t have it, you don’t stand a chance.

We haven’t had it since the 18-19 season. Players need to take a long look at themselves.

Perhaps so but where next? Alas, wages reflect where a team ends up and really we're a 6/7th come May kinda team and it won't change.

We lucked out in the Poch era, a lorra luck

Just gotta accept results like today because we're nothing special anymore
Simplest way to put it. The club had a small window to become an elite club but as we all know they missed the boat. This isn’t a blip but more of what we’ll see in the short to medium term future imo

No need to overreact to the first game of the season. The team didn't look in sync which is expected considering half the starting XI were away at internationals and have not trained together. Doherty didn't even start training with the squad until Tuesday this week.

The defense was solid outside of the set-piece goal. The only good chance Everton had was the bad pass from Davies that setup Richarlson on the one on one chance he missed. Besides that Everton only had long passes to Richarlson or DCL who took difficult shots and rarely tested Lloris.

In attack, Doherty and Dele had really good chances that were saved by Pickford. Lucas, Son and Dele and Son were really bad today I'll admit but we know what kind of players they will be this season. Kane was marked out by good defense on Everton who had two guys on him at all times.

There isn't enough time to flesh this team out with the quality or the depth we would need to attempt to challenge on multiple fronts.

If PEH goes down, we're literally right back to square one. If Doherty goes down, and so on. Being excited by a few stop gaps is one thing, understanding where the state of this squad is at is something else.

Harry Kane will be comforting himself tonight, safe in the knowledge that he won’t have to start another season with us.

He was just as responsible for the performance today as any other player on the pitch - jogging around, didn't seem that interested and would rather let the ball roll out for a corner than try and cross to Son or Lucas in the box.

I love Kane, but today was poor.

We have too many players that are now in decline from when they were at their best. Levy's failure to plan ahead of this decline has left us here.

But what did Kane do any better than the others? He can moan and have strops but he was walking around the pitch, making no challenges to get the ball and just generally looked half arsed.

He's a world class striker, not a holding midfielder. He shouldn't be charging around the pitch making challenges, if he is then something has gone badly wrong with how we are playing.

Ill be interested to hear Jose after what was one of the most pathetic performances i can remember in a long time. Truly terrible.

He will probably do his usual Jose trick and try and deflect the attention elsewhere... Also use that pathetic excuse about the free kick being taken four yards forward

steve hitchen has to take a lot of the blame as well, came across really bad on the amazon doc, and been here since 2017, what truly successful purchase have we had since then?

How many players, exactly, do you want us to buy?

Can’t tell a lie... I wasn’t expecting us to be so docile and passive today. Really felt like we were going to play with intensity and passion. So, right now I’m feelIng more surprised than anything else. Shocked at how easily we capitulated. Dissatisfied with our lack of oomph. Baffled by some of the tactical decisions. Troubled at how indifferent the players seemed to be.

I can’t recall a season opening game in the last ten years, where we were that listless.

Gonna be a rather turgid season unless attitudes change quickly. No amount of transfer business this window is going to be a salve. So don’t expect it. Over to the coaching staff and the players to figure this out, unfortunately. As neither have so far demonstrated an ability to adapt and evolve.

Play like this over our opening five games and we will be in the bottom half of the table for the rest of the year.

If we weren't so reliant on homegrown players, I'd be looking to move on Winks & Alli & then move on Sissoko, Moura, and Davies and look to bring in players that are not just going through the motions in the first game of the bloody season. Honestly, I don't like the look of this season right now.
