I think the articles reflect what Trix et al have told us. But ultimately the ball rests in Daniel's court and he has to sanction the move.

FWIW, sky bet now have Sancho (1/3 to stay at Dortmund (vs 9/4 to go to Utd) and Utd a ball hair in front of us to sign Bale (2/1 vs 9/4).

Appreciate odds dont necessarily mean anything other than gambling market sentiment but its the first time both odds have flipped this way since the window opened. Does suggest expectation of Bale leaving one way or another which is ultimately exciting itself.

It pretty much is a 99% about Man U article with a sprinkle of "Tottenham have the advantage because man u see him as a back up option"

We probably do have the advantage for this reason if we are willing to close the deal. That’s a huge if though and the longer we procrastinate the door will be closed.

Which will just make it all the more galling when we dither about as usual.

Have to say that if Utd go out & sign Bale after we have been told that there was a deal to us that was just for us, then I will lose my shit. This club needs to be backed, we were in the Champions League final last year for fuck sake, and we are pissing around with our signings as per usual. I'm usually quite level headed with Levy but to see Bale rock up at Utd would tip me over the edge.

I'd love to know what the figures are. If the wages are well below the £300K that's been mentioned in the media then you have to wonder what we're waiting for.

I think where we are at now we should be looking at signing experienced established match winners as well as talented young players. It seems like we need a balance of the two if we are serious about ever progressing beyond being the very good young team with potential that we were a few years ago. Although just getting back to that level now seems like a mountain!

In any case over the past couple of windows we have invested heavily in experienced younger players. In addition to Ndombele, we have signed Lo Celso, Bergwijn and Sessengon as well as the less experienced Clarke and Gedson. The signing of 28 year old outfield player in this window was a total outlier in terms of our transfer strategy of the last 10 years.
I would group Sessegnon with Clarke and Gedson was an injury cover that probably happened because Mourinho signalized the player or Mendes proposed it, can't know for certain, but doesn't look like it was a real attempt at building for the future. it was an opportunity that arose, we had the need to assess the situation due to lack of cover in central areas and it eventually materialized as a loan with a steep buy option which is not going to be triggered (hopefully).

as for Lo Celso and Bergwijn, I agree with the description. they kinda fit the same profile and aim to provide value right away- are they match differentials now when considering Tottenham's objectives? kinda... but yea, not really those players that will get us over the top in an highly competitive environment consistently. however if we go back in time I'd say Ndombele was seen as that guy. a real attempt at getting a player of enormous ability that would control our attacking midfield processes. he was playing UCL, completely bossed Man City. names like Sabitzer, Werner. holding resale value but having had that experience at the highest level. Lo Celso played at Betis (and didn't work out at PSG), Bergwijn at PSV. there's a small difference.

I see what you mean tho and it makes sense. I just don't believe that Bale at this stage of the career is a safe play to the amount of money it would take to have him back. but definitely agree that there has to be a balance in our transfer market approach if we're ever gonna take the next step. anyway, what I truly believe to be problematic is not the ins but the absence of relevant outs. and the money coming in from those operations might have helped out on having that balanced squad.

United fans on twitter seem delighted at that article...then again, the average age of united fans on twitter is around 12. Half of them believe Daniel James is better than Bale...

Not sure if this is a false memory or wishful thinking, but wasn’t there a post in here a while back where someone ran the numbers on Bale’s time in Madrid and found that his injury record was really nowhere near as bad as some reports would have us believe?

i get that however it’s spun it’s going to be a lot of money for a 31 year old and that there’s absolutely no guarantee he could replicate even a portion of the feats he performed in the past, but... imagine how gutting it would be to see him tear it up at someone like Man U...

Even with supposedly clearly defined targets from Jose, and pretty much a come and get me from Bale and Madrid, we're still dragging our arse like a crippled dog!

I just want us to be decisive for a change.

Yeah, I know we don't actually know what's going on behind the scenes but fuck me, we've been here enough times to be pretty sure of how the club works.

Shit show might have been a tad hyperbolic but I honestly think we’ve got some quite serious problems with the strategy/how we’re being run at the top, massive concerns about the manager and also big concerns about a good part of our squad, both in terms of mentality and ability. I’m just not convinced Bale is going to solve these issues but then I’m not sure what will other than a complete overhaul and writing off the next couple of seasons which isn’t going to happen obviously.
Quite simply if we don't push on massively HK is gone next Sumner. For me it's take a calculated risk now on Bale and a decent CF or that will be the reality.

Every transfer has an element of risk, and the time is running out on getting this one done. Bale preference is us, but they are speaking now to two other teams as well. The financial position is pretty much set and not likely to change regardless of what else happens, so a decision from DL is all that is required.

So as far as your concerned it’ll now boil down to DL giving it a thumbs up or a thumbs down based on the compromises Bale/ Madrid have offered?

I think we know how this ends ☹️

I just can't see him doing it.

Levy isn't the type of person to feel pressured into making a signing in this way. Safety first.

I don't think I've ever been more interested in the financials behind a potential deal more than this one. I just can't see how it can add up in our favour and still not piss off our high-earners.

Mate, Kane is gone whether we have a “good” season or not.

Best case this season is we get top 4 (which is highly unlikely imo) and even then I don’t see him staying. Bale isn’t going to keep him at the club for another few years. The only thing that will is if we win something meaningful. The most realistic is we win the Europa league (which get us CL) then I could see him giving us 1 more season but even then I’d doubt it.

Well I don't think Kane woukd be pissed off, he'd probably be delighted.

If the others are pissed off then they should take a look at themselves and if they warrant their salary as they've hardly been grand this past year or so.
